This week, Vetri Cooking Lab students from six different schools gathered in the Teaching Kitchen for the Middle School Cook Off. 🌟
Split into four different teams, students came together to go head to head in a “Chopped” style competition, and this time the mystery ingredient was cinnamon. They had 50 minutes to plan and cook their meals with the array of ingredients provided. Three judges rated each team’s dish based off of teamwork, taste, texture, color, and the use of the mystery ingredient. It was a close competition, and while all of the teams did a fantastic job, @saintlaurentiusschool came in first place overall for their incredible efforts! Great work chefs!
At this year’s Friends of Marc Dinner, Community Cooking Class participant Steven Duong was kind enough to join us to share all about his and his daughter Ava’s experience in the Teaching Kitchen over the last couple of years. Through hands-on cooking classes and welcoming spaces built around shared meals, Steven reflects on how Vetri Community Partnership helped his daughter become a more adventurous eater while creating deeper connections with others in the community.

Last week at C. W. Henry School's Vetri Cooking Lab, students chopped, measured, mixed, and sautéed vegetables and other ingredients to create Hearty Veggie Chili, Biscuits, and Fruit Salad! At the end of class, these young chefs tasted their dishes together and discussed what they liked and what they might change about each dish.
Week by week, it’s so inspiring to see these Vetri Cooking Lab students expand their palates while gaining the knowledge and confidence to make nutritious choices and build life skills for a healthier future! 🍓
Big smiles and thumbs up from kindergarteners for Chef Liz, who blended together a fuschia pink Strawberry Beet Smoothie for them. Students chatted with Vetri Community Partnership educators, Liz and Alex, about the nutritious ingredients that go into a smoothie. Even though several students had never tried beets before, Liz and Alex gave them lots of opportunities to engage with the ingredients, creating a fun and adventurous environment for trying new things.
The Strawberry Beet Smoothie received nearly unanimous rave reviews from the kindergarteners!
Across the city, Vetri Community Partnership is giving more and more kids the opportunity to gain exposure to and try nutritious, delicious recipes during their school day.
