“For Richer, for Poorer” @dramabox_official Cast: John Palmer, Olivia Cella, Melissa Chick Director: Elena Viklova “The Alpha King & His Virgin Bride” 🙂 (NEW Mar 2026 Drama 65ep) Also featuring Chase Lawless, Bella DiDomenico This is a classic male comeback story that should appeal to viewers who enjoyed titles like “Goodbye, My Tempting Wife” (NetShort). John Palmer Edwards “Teach Me, Touch Me” (MyDrama) leads the series. Given his presence and acting style, it almost feels surprising that he hasn’t appeared in a male comeback story before. John carries the emotional core of the series, and several scenes resonate largely because of his performance. **Story Summary** James founded one of the world’s largest aerospace companies, SpaceS. However, in order to spend more time with his family, he stepped away from that life and has worked as a car washer for the past 17 years. His daughter Ashley looks down on him, while his wife Kelly remains close to her first love Chris. At that moment, SpaceS VP Chloe approaches James and asks him to return as CEO. After years of mistreatment from his family, James finally gives up trying to hold the family together and decides to leave and return to SpaceS. It begins as the sad story of a man who chose to simply “be there” for his family — only to lose the love of a wife and daughter who valued money and status more. The humiliation he faces over his job is particularly harsh, but the series does make an effort not to stretch those humiliation scenes for too long. The rocket sequences and the wedding flashbacks are used very effectively, reinforcing the theme behind the title. Several scenes land with surprising emotional weight, particularly John’s delivery of lines like “When did she stop loving me?” and “Why did she stop loving me?” — questions many couples quietly struggle with but rarely say out loud. John’s performance is particularly strong, which occasionally makes the contrast with some surrounding performances more noticeable. To be continued in the comments. Finished watching already? “My Silent Treasure” @watchcandyjar Cast: Eric Guilmette, Mariana Tostado Director: D. Mitry “Love & Blood” Writer: D. Mitry, Citlalli A. Ruiz 🙂 (Feb 2026 Romance 54ep 🇲🇽) Also featuring Elina Golde, Benedikt Sebastian, Jose Luis Medrano This charming drama makes excellent use of its Mexican locations while carrying a gentle message. Director D. Mitry — who also co-writes and appears in the series — returns after “Love & Blood,” once again with Eric Guilmette, reuniting him with Mariana Tostado after “The Secret She Couldn’t Escape” (Vigloo). Their production model appears to involve creating projects independently in Mexico and selling them to different platforms. After releases on Vigloo, DramaBox and ReelShort, this one lands on CandyJarTV — and its tone and pacing fit the platform well. The very first scene — where Dean steps into cow poop — immediately signals that this won’t be a heavy drama, but something closer to comedy. **Story Summary** Dean inherits a house in Mexico from his late grandfather. Because he already has an arranged-marriage fiancée, Nora — meant to help solve his parents’ financial troubles — he initially comes only intending to sell the property. However, upon arrival he is greeted by a mute woman named Ana pointing a gun at him. After consulting a lawyer, Dean learns that Ana comes with the house. Inside the house, Ana gives him a letter from his grandfather. The letter explains Ana’s situation and reveals that somewhere in the hacienda there is a hidden treasure waiting to be discovered. Dean is slightly clumsy but consistently charming, while Ana appears guarded and somewhat cool — though the occasional smile she shows is irresistible. Mariana Tostado proves especially effective in the role, conveying much of the character through presence and subtle expressions rather than dialogue. The way the three villains are written and positioned throughout the story is surprisingly effective. To be continued in the comments. Finished watching already? “CEO’s Kansas Sweetheart” @dreameshort Cast: Ashley Michelle Grant, Eric Guilmette Director: Chenyang Shu, Zhidong Yi Writer: Jiayan He, Zikun Wu 👀 (NEW Mar 2026 Romance 76ep) Also featuring Lexi Collins, Brian O’Shea, Tristan Rewald, Luke Brewer, Alexander Ray A long-awaited reunion for Ashley Michelle Grant and Eric Guilmette after “The Unwanted Mate” (ShortMax). However, the story plays it far too safe and feels overly familiar. Despite its bright rom-com poster, the story quickly leans into darker territory. Lexi Collins once again delivers a ruthless villain performance that pulls the story further away from rom-com territory. Still, anyone who finds themselves drawn to Eric Guilmette’s full range of emotions should definitely give this one a watch. He also brings a slightly different look and tone to the role, while Ashley Michelle Grant delivers a strong and resilient lead performance. The strong supporting cast is another highlight. **Story Summary** Emily arrives from rural Kansas. Through Vanessa’s introduction, she finds work as a masseur but is forced to wear a bunny costume. Needing money for her mother’s surgery, Emily endures the humiliation. After being drugged by Vanessa and nearly assaulted by a man, she escapes and encounters a drunken CEO, Dominic, who ends up helping her. The two spend the night together. Emily later becomes pregnant and gives birth. Knowing the child belongs to Dominic, Vanessa steals the baby and approaches him herself. Emily is told that the baby has died and is left devastated. Seven years later, Emily saves a young boy named Lucas from being hit by a car — unaware that he is actually her own child. The male character not using protection — twice — also raises some questions. With its darker ending, it’s hard to say the series ultimately leaves the viewer with much to take away. “All You Need is Love” @shortical Cast: Alyona, Richard Trotter Director: Dom Cutrupi “Lost & Found” 😶 (NEW Mar 2026 Romance 60ep) 🇨🇦 Also featuring Isabel Flores, Karrie Drake, Lexi Collins The series creates a serene and visually pleasing atmosphere, but much like the previous Shortical project “Lost & Found,” the story carries a strong sense of familiarity. The leads are Alyona “The Call Boy I Met in Paris” (ReelShort) and Richard Trotter “Wrong!” (ReelShort). Several Canadian vertical stars also appear throughout the series, including small cameo roles. Shortical productions also seem to struggle with editing. In two consecutive series now, the opening uses what feels like a copy-and-paste flash-forward taken straight from the ending. Scenes sometimes cut off abruptly, and in other cases, some shows even repeat the same moment for 30 seconds. **Story Summary** One day Rachel finds Eddie suffering from hypothermia in a car. Following instructions from paramedics over the phone, she warms him using body heat. Eddie asks her for a kiss — and Rachel’s “One kiss wouldn’t hurt” leads to an unexpected pregnancy. Eddie spends years searching for Rachel. Seven years later, the two meet again in a shopping mall, unaware that they had already met before, and begin falling in love once more. Meanwhile Eddie’s mother discovers that Eddie has a daughter. The opening setup feels very “vertical.” While the intention seems to be showing intimacy and self-sacrifice, the idea of a man suffering from hypothermia suddenly having enough energy for romance in a car raises a few questions. A bigger issue is once again the use of children in the story. The story also feels unusually comfortable using violence as a dramatic device. This series includes a child-abuse scene involving the villain Mel. The character is written as completely unsympathetic, and the scene feels more disturbing than dramatically effective. Rather than strengthening the romance or tension, it risks pulling the viewer out of the story. To be continued in the comments. Finished watching already? “Undercover Billionaire’s Accidental Bride” @shortendrama Cast: Lucy Hallett-Jones, Ashley Bagley Director: Andrea M. Catinella “Homeless to Billionaire’s Wife” 😶 (Feb 2026 RomCom 30ep 🇬🇧) Also featuring Dylan Reeves-Fellows, James Burman, Chloe Karr This series is essentially a UK remake of last year’s huge hit “Runaway Billionaire Becomes My Groom.” The original — starring the charming Jesse Gallagher and introducing Ryan Vincent as an unexpectedly compelling male lead — became one of the standout hits of the year thanks to their natural chemistry and warm tone. The original version is available on multiple platforms, but it’s interesting to compare them since this remake is still holding the No.1 spot on Shorten. One key difference is that the groom is not a security guard, but a janitor. However, while the actors and locations feel unmistakably British, the story is set in New York, which remains a slightly awkward choice. The leads are Lucy Hallett-Jones “The Billionaire Escort’s Secret” (MoboReels) and Ashley Bagley “How the Maid Sparked the Blind CEO’s Heart” (Shorten). **Story Summary** Heir Jay is informed by his assistant that his mother has arranged a wedding for him with heiress Aura. Wanting to escape, he swaps clothes with a hotel janitor. Meanwhile Rosie, an orphan, is suddenly abandoned at the wedding venue by her fiancé Dwayne and accused of being a gold digger by his mother. In the chaos, she impulsively proposes to the janitor standing nearby — who is actually Jay in disguise — and the two end up getting married on the spot. The production quality stands out in this version. Instead of stretching the story, the series keeps things compact and well-paced. Several new touches — including the Vespa moment, romantic scenes, and some added sensual moments — help distinguish it from the original. The ending is quite abrupt. Compared to the original version’s more extended resolution, this adaptation opts for a simpler but more theatrical finale. Interestingly, this version almost feels like it could work well as a stage play. Finished watching already? Please vote in the questionnaire below!

“Country Gal to CEO’s Bride” @reelshortapp Cast: Kimberly McClain, Dusty Lachowicz Director: Deven Bussey “Step Aside Ex, She’s the Hidden Lycan Queen!” Writer: Gauri Adelkar “The Words” 🙂 (Jul 2025 RomCom 104ep) Also featuring Hunter Pittman, Joe Solana Simon, Joshua Smith, Tate Doppler, Adam Chisnall Late to the Hit #3 — ReelShort Alongside new releases, I’m also catching up with some long-running vertical hits I somehow missed. This small side series is called “Late to the Hit.” This time from ReelShort. Even eight months after release, the series still holds a steady presence in the charts. With 162M views, it remains one of ReelShort’s major hits. The leads are Kimberly McClain “The Senator’s Son” (ReelShort) and Dusty Lachowicz “Knight in Shining Suit” (ReelShort). Their chemistry — along with the strong ensemble teamwork — is what keeps the series fun. Tate Doppler’s slightly awkward but kind-hearted character is also a nice touch. **Story Summary** Emma is a country girl who escapes her abusive family and moves to the city. While trying to throw water on her best friend’s cheating boyfriend, she accidentally splashes CEO William instead and unleashes a stream of insults at him. When William threatens to sue, his mother — who witnessed the entire scene — decides the solution is simple: make them get married. The best friend’s sudden turn into a villain is quite dramatic. But this isn’t really a show where you worry too much about those details. The series is packed with classic tropes. One refreshing choice, however, is that the hidden-identity trope isn’t dragged out for too long. Despite all the humiliation, family drama, and over-the-top situations, the warm moments between the leads — their smiles, lingering looks, and small misunderstandings — end up carrying the show. William’s mother also delivers several satisfying moments along the way. At 104 episodes, this is definitely a show best saved for a day when you have time to settle in and enjoy it. “Sultan’s Heart” @dramashorts_official Cast: Angelina Samchyk, Artem Plonder Director: Olena Zakharchuk “Love You / Hate You” (NEW Mar 2026 Romance Drama 62ep 🇺🇦) Also featuring Shona Marchuk, Max Tkachenko A historical vertical that places the familiar control-and-liberation theme inside an Islamic sultanate setting — a framework that fits this studio’s strengths well. The leads are Anhelina Samchyk Trandafilova and Artem Plonder “Hired for Pleasure” (DramaShorts). **Story Summary** After her family is killed by bandits, Jaren is sold into slavery and brought to the palace harem. She is chosen by Sultan Serkan as his halvet (night partner). Surprisingly, what he seeks from her is not simply possession, but emotional connection. But the next morning, Jaren attempts to escape. Jaren’s confusion and emotional swings are noticeable from the beginning. Her revenge motive against Serkan feels somewhat weak, and despite supposedly hating him, she frequently finds herself praising him internally. At one point she even declares her intention to climb the social ranks — only to start planning an escape soon after. Some of these shifts can be a bit difficult to follow. Serkan’s mother, however, is a fascinating character and represents the power dynamics of the era well. Once her motivations become clearer, the political dynamics inside the palace start to feel much more interesting. She carefully selects women who fit her son’s taste while warning him: “Do not fall for her.” A concubine is meant to be property, not a partner. At the same time, she fears losing her own influence if Serkan were ever to favor a woman too strongly, which explains the harsh treatment she directs toward Jaren. In the second half, the story introduces a mystery element that makes the plot more engaging. Jaren eventually rises in status, but unfortunately one of her key scenes suffers from an editing mistake where a line is abruptly cut off. To be continued in the comments. Finished watching already? “Modern Journey of an Ancient Queen” @flickreels_app Cast: Anastasiya Shestakova, Jeremiah Blakely Director: XiXi Zhou 😍 (Dec 2024 RomCom 75ep 🇨🇳) Also featuring Katherine Kai, Eddie Owgan Late to the Hit #2 — FlickReels Alongside new releases, I’m also catching up with some long-running vertical hits I somehow missed. This small side series is called “Late to the Hit.” This title has remained a long-running hit on FlickReels for more than a year. This is a fantastic time-crossing second-life story. While this kind of theme is something Chinese dramas often excel at, the production design and writing here are exceptionally strong, making it top-tier entertainment for a vertical series. The lead role is played by China-based Anastasiya Shestakova “My Mafia Servant,” (DreameShort), who portrays the queen with confidence and power, while still keeping a charming softness to the character. Opposite her is Jeremiah Blakely “A Valentine’s Day, A Prize and Mr. Right” (ShortMax), whose expressive gestures and facial acting make him a perfect fit for rom-com roles. **Story Summary** Queen Heely is an ancient queen. After her father is murdered by King Louis, she herself is stabbed to death. Heely is then reincarnated in the modern world in the body of a woman who shares both her name and her face. That woman’s husband, Austin, had already been planning to divorce the original modern-day Heely. The new Queen Heely asks Austin for one year to prepare to stand on her own. As time passes, Austin begins to find himself drawn to this new version of Heely. The series is carefully crafted, with well-written scenes and dialogue — there are almost no throwaway moments. Watching Heely navigate the modern world with her ancient-queen mindset leads to many amusing moments. Her queen-like straightforwardness and her unconventional problem-solving approach are also a lot of fun to watch. The acting audition scene in particular is goosebumps-worthy. “Not His Holy Good Girl” @dramabox_us @kalostvapp Cast: Halle Fletcher Landry Grandstaff 🙂 (NEW Mar 2026 Drama, Romance, Mafia 54ep) Also featuring Tori Kay, Jeff Lawless, Austin Dornay, Nicole Dionne Right from the opening scene, the “good girl” shocks the male lead with: “Nice body. Wanna fk?” — a shock-intro moment. Will we be seeing more openings like this? A similar device already appeared in “Diana the Good Girl” (ShortsWave), where the heroine bluntly says “Not bad. Sleep with me!” — again using a powerful male lead as part of a revenge plan against her own family. This series pairs Halle Fletcher “Cheer Up, Baby!” (DramaBox), who fits the good girl role very well, with Landry Grandstaff “Desire Under Our Uniforms” (KalosTV), whose characters always bring a distinctive presence. An interesting pairing. **Story Summary** Grace is an adopted daughter. Her father makes advances toward her because she resembles her mother, while the rest of the family treats her terribly. Constantly plotting revenge, Grace happens to meet the mafia boss Mason at her sister’s wedding. The two end up crashing the wedding together — and spending the night with each other. Because Grace’s adoptive father is obsessed with her, the family dynamic becomes slightly more interesting than a simple Grace-vs-family conflict. Grace trusts no one. She openly declares that she intends to use people — even the mafia — for her revenge. Meanwhile, the ruthless mafia boss falls in love, and watching him willingly be used by the woman he loves adds a surprisingly bittersweet layer. The story becomes most interesting once the expected roles begin to flip — the “good girl” becoming the darker one while the ruthless mafia boss reveals a surprisingly softer side. This is very much a pace-and-atmosphere driven story where the details aren’t meant to be examined too closely. Despite Grace being a choir girl, there are no singing scenes at all. At times, the character’s intensity feels a little forced. Finished watching already? Please vote in the questionnaire below! #nothisholygoodgirl #dramabox #kalostv #hallefletcher #landrygrandstaff

“Dear Stranger, I Love You” @app.shorts Cast: Daniela Couso, Evan Adams Director: Francis Heath “Engaged to the Secret Billionaire” Writer: Jeff Moldovanov “My Knockout Fake Husband” 🙃 (May 2025 RomCom 57ep) Also featuring Sully Christian, Zoe Gordon, Shayla Stensby Late to the Hit #1 — Shorts Alongside new releases, I’ll also be running a small side series over the next two weeks called “Late to the Hit,” where I finally catch up with long-running hits I somehow missed. The first entry is this school drama from Shorts — a major hit that often returns to the #1 spot on the Shorts rankings whenever the momentum of newer releases settles. One fun detail: the characters are introduced with the actors’ real Instagram handles, which is a nice touch. The series stars Daniela Couso, who appeared with Sully Christian in “Rush Into Love” (DreameShort), alongside Evan Adams “Pucked by My Brother’s Rival” (DramaBox), creating a nice ensemble cast. **Story Summary** Mia is a top student who uses an app called Paper Hearts to write essays and earn money for her mother’s medical treatment. She secretly has a crush on bad boy Dan, but when Brad discovers her identity, he asks Mia to help him write a love letter to Chloe. What begins as Mia helping Brad play cupid gradually becomes more complicated, as unexpected feelings start to grow between them. The story explores the gap between the idealized image of someone and the reality you discover once you’re actually with them. And when you’re young, are you actually in love with someone — or just in love with the idea of love? I can absolutely see why the series became popular. There are plenty of fun moments typical of this genre — including the inevitable makeover sequence. Unfortunately, I personally couldn’t quite get pulled into it. Brad ends up sacrificing far too much — whether out of his own will, for money, or to protect Mia. Brad’s comment about rom-com logic — especially the “very realistic” part — was the moment I oddly found myself agreeing with him the most. Finished watching already? “Underwater Lover” @dramapopsapp Cast: Jesse Gallagher, Ethan Vaughan Writer: Ryan Lusignan “Take My Breath Away” 🙃 (NEW Feb 2026 Drama Romance 50ep 🇱🇹) Also featuring JC Ann, Jared Anthony Smith The deep blue palette of the poster suggests both beauty and a quiet sense of suffocation — and the show leans heavily into that atmosphere. Visually, it creates a strong mood from the start. Jesse Gallagher “Bring It On: My Mafia Life” (DreameShort) and Ethan Vaughan “The End of the Fxxxing Housewife” (DreameShort) make for an appealing pairing. The script is written by Ryan Lusignan — a rising name in the vertical space — who also appears in the series as Coach Cliff. **Story Summary** Aria and Blaze meet at swim camp and quickly fall into a “together forever” type of love. Then Blaze suddenly disappears from Aria’s life. Ten years later, Aria still hasn’t moved on. When she unexpectedly sees Blaze again at a restaurant, she approaches him and they spend the night together — only for Blaze to show no recognition of her at all. Aria soon discovers she is pregnant. Watching this series, the first thing that came to mind was something a friend once said, “Vertical dramas never quite get amnesia right.” Aria doesn’t quickly realize that Blaze has lost his memory. Meanwhile, Blaze doesn’t clearly recognize that his memories are missing, which means he shows little active curiosity about his past. After the accident, he seems to lose not only parts of his memory but also his entire personality — turning into a noticeably harsher and more abrasive version of himself. Despite the appealing leads and strong visuals, the story begins with an uneasy imbalance. While the series offers an explanation for Blaze’s disappearance, it’s hard to believe that Aria couldn’t track down a fairly well-known swimmer for an entire decade, and the later contract marriage pushes the confusion even further. At times, the reactions of Aria’s friends mirror exactly what the audience may be thinking. To be continued in the comments. Finished watching already?
