The hammerbeam. One of timber framing's most iconic trusses — and one of the most complex to build.
A hammerbeam allows a bent to span a wide distance using shorter pieces of timber, which means more intricate joinery and a finished result that you can't help but notice. It's not something we get to build everyday, but we sure do love the opportunity - check out these shots from the shop & on site.

Check out the wood grain from this timber we were cutting in the shop last week.
We can't be entirely sure how old this tree was, but we recognize that it started its life long before many of us. Any it'll live on centuries into the future, providing shelter and warmth to one of our lucky clients.
We love building structures that will last lifetimes and simple things like seeing the rings at the end of a timber are humbling reminders of special our work really is.

On the job yesterday in Essex, NY — beautiful day on Lake Champlain looking back on the Green Mountains across the water.
If you've never seen a frame being raised - it's an almost meditative experience. Team working in unison with the structure coming together in beautiful geometric shapes right before your eyes. It's humbling to know that we're a part of erecting a structure that's likely to be here, looking over Lake Champlain, long after we're gone.
