So a couple weeks ago I took some portraits of ABIODUN OYEWOLE, whom is a poet, author, teacher, and a founding member of the American music and spoken-word group The Last Poets, which laid the groundwork for the emergence of hip-hop.
He gave some words of advice to the young ppl which was :
Quote for the youth
"Respect and accept the gift but do not get caught up with the giver
It might disappoint you"
I found some footage on YouTube of @thelastpoetsofficial , and I also pieced together some footage that I've obtained during our portrait session and created this video to introduce y'all to @thelastpoetsofficial , who they are and what they stand for.
Just to give my Instagram some insight on some creatives I definitely admire.
The main footage that I captured was during an event @thelangstonhugheshouse
Where we were in langston Hughes actual house.
Note: we all should expose ourselves to legendary elders
All he needed was a rose… 🌹
Working with models that know their angles is one thing, and capturing their good side is also another
But it all plays a part, and everyone has a job to do
These are some lessons i had to learn as a model and photographer.

“Round the way love”
As I organized this post, I thought about how the team and I were really excited to come together & tell a story that made sense.
And as I edited this batch of photos the love story began to unfold.
A love found in Brooklyn, right around the way, as ll cool j - around the way girl, was playing in my head.

February - March is realizing how abundant I already am
February - March is realizing how much love is already around & within me so searching for it elsewhere is redundant

Extended cut with Naderson: whether a painting or photograph, the process of creating a finished body of work involves several moving parts, vision, and a trusting team. Our crew came together with our own mediums at Naderson’s art studio, and ideas were brought to life, movement to set, and loads of inspiration to take home.
On and off the canvas, screen and pages a joining force can create a ripple effect that ultimately turns into something bigger than everyone in the room. Although our creation, we also bring YOU in the room to enjoy, interpret, be inspired.
Enjoy our extended cut, from the crew 🤍

“ A rose for Damani 🌹”
This has been one of the hardest parts of reality to accept.
I accept it fully now.
This piece is for a love lost
To make it helped me get through my grief.
But its always better to have loved and lost than to have ever loved at all.
To those reading: The weight of Grief can only make you stronger, it can make you or break you. Get made.
The timing of grief is also different for everyone, remember that.
Energy never dies, & when your loved ones pass away they live in your heart.
It took me a minute to create anything, and i didnt realize how much i would be so affected. But right now i finally feel like i could create something and channel all these emotions and grief into this piece, at my own time. I feel so much better now releasing this. After a year+
RIP Love 🕊️🌹 I hope you like it
Last week i posted some photos talking about the different types of perspective eyes that photographers have.
This is the same shoot but with two different photographers.
This perspective is from @idrisoptix
📷: @idrisoptix
To me, idris is mainly highlighting the subject (me), as the photos are centered around capturing my personality and letting the subject(me) tell my own story. Though the setting is important, the subject is the meat and potatoes and the setting is the rice and gravy.
If you get my drift.
Different eye, different energy and essence
Equal amounts of fire
Yesterdays price is not todays price
(Feedback of opinions on the different eyes are welcomed)
Over the weekend, I Had the pleasure of shooting with 2 different photographer eyes… its always amazing to see someone’s perspective
This is @domflicksz eye
📷 : @domflicksz
To me, dom pays attention to setting, color scheme and a grand view, allowing the settings surrounding the subject to help tell the story of the subject.
I will post the other photographers eye next, just to help us see that when we are working with photographers, & understanding the value in their eye/perspective… you are not just booking someone to just take flicks all willy nilly. There is value, essence & energy being put into this.
So no, yesterday’s price is not today’s price.
Also wanted to mention these photos are raw and the colors speak for itself
