PORTSDOWN CLASSIC: Photos from @gadsby_pics (Howard Gadsby)
The misty morning fog hung over Portsdown hill, but the racers didn't seem to notice, or at least didn't have time to. They were busy hurting themselves in the first National B road race of the season around the hilly course above Portsmouth, in the Portsdown Classic. An early break was formed and held a good gap despite the group chasing hard, and Alex Murphy stayed away with the leaders before jumping away for the win on the final climb.

BRITISH WINNER! Setmana Ciclista Valenciana --- 19-year-old Cat Ferguson has the fastest legs in Valencia, Demi Vollering retains leader's jersey
(via Sporza) Britain's Cat Ferguson won the second stage of the Setmana Ciclista Valenciana in a peloton sprint on Friday. The 115-kilometer stage in and around Villarreal ended in a peloton sprint despite three climbs along the way. A breakaway by Lieke Nooijen (Visma-Lease a Bike), Talia Appleton (Liv AlUla Jayco), and Sigrid Ytterhus Haugset (Uno-X Mobility) was neutralized in the final phase by the efforts of Lidl-Trek, which had hoped for a sprint victory for Elisa Balsamo.
However, after a crash in her sprint train in the penultimate kilometer, the Italian top favorite was ultimately unable to sprint. Cat Ferguson won the sprint by a few bike lengths, ahead of Italian women Letizia Paternoster (Liv AlUla Jayco) and Letizia Borghesi (AG Insurance-Soudal).
For Ferguson, it was her second victory of the season, following a round of the Challenge Mallorca at the end of January. At 19, the British talent already has no fewer than seven professional victories. In 2024, she won twice at the professional level in Belgium as a junior, in Binche-Chimay-Binche and a stage of the Tour du Semois.
European champion Demi Vollering remains in the lead in Valencia, following her solo victory in Thursday's opening stage. Two stages remain in the Setmana Ciclista Valenciana. Saturday will be the toughest, with the second half of the race featuring the 15-kilometer climb of Port de Tudons.

COMING EVENTS: The Gifford Road Races will return to the East Lothian village for three exciting races that marks the start of the Scottish season on Saturday 28th March.
The 2026 edition of the event will again have three races, with racing opportunities for all open and female riders.
The morning opens with our regional Race - this is for Category 3 and 4 riders - and will be held over four laps of our 8 mile circuit. If you’re a male rider new to road racing then this would be a great opportunity to test your mettle over 50 kilometres of racing.
Lunchtime sees our Female race, which will also be held over four laps of the flattish circuit. This is open to all female riders - and with it forming part of the new-look Scotia Race Series - we’d highly recommend trying this out if you want to try road racing.
With prizes for experienced and novice riders, you’ll be racing for every place - no matter if you’re vying for the win or looking to finish your first race.
There is no need to have a race licence as you can get a day licence on the day, all you need is a British Cycling membership!
The afternoon sees our elite race, for experienced open riders, over 9 laps or 120km, as part of the Alba Series it sees the best riders in Scotland and some from England compete to take the first big road race of the season. As a National B race, it’s open to all riders of 3rd Category and above.
There will be cash prizes to the top 6 in each race, as well as various other prizes for Under 18 riders and Masters riders (aged over 40). Reduced rate entry for all races is also available to students, juniors and women!

TEAM NEWS: The @ribbleoutliers Outliers are back for 2026 following a breakthrough debut season which delivered over 20 podiums, including gold medals at UCI World Series and Gravel Earth events.
The team's roster is growing from six to seven riders this year with the additions of Abi Smith and Josie Millard. After four years competing in the Women’s UCI WorldTour, Abi brings a wealth of experience, with six national titles spanning road, time trial, track, hill climbing and gravel. The current British National Gravel Time Trial Champion enters the fold ready to take on her first full season dedicated to gravel racing.
Josie joins the team following a highly unconventional route into cycling. A former professional skateboarder and the first woman to be named European Skateboarder of the Year, Josie has swapped four wheels for two and is now fully committed to gravel. The 2026 season marks her first year as a professional cyclist. Abi and Josie will be joined by five more athletes who are returning for the second season, bringing a mix of proven winners, former road professionals, and emerging talent:
-- Metheven Bond – Stepping up from semi-pro to chase his first professional podium
-- Harry Tanfield – Former WorldTour pro and current British National Gravel Time Trial Champion.
-- Ben Thomas – Four-time national champion and instrumental team contributor
-- Sophie Wright – 2025 Gravel Suisse winner and the UK's top-performing women’s gravel racer
-- Jenson Young - 2025 Three Peaks champion and UCI Gravel Wales (Graen) gold medallist
