The days leading up to @blade_show are some of our favorite moments on the @hogueknives production floor, as the upbeat energy and buzz of excitement flows with each assembly headed to the show. This year, we’re thrilled to be bringing an EXTREMELY limited run of a never-before-seen model in collaboration with @vegasforge . Make sure to keep your eyes on our feed over the next few days as we unveil the newest addition to our Collector Series – the SAXUM.

I’ve received a few questions regarding this piece so I thought I’d do some cut and paste. Mokume-gane (“wood grain metal”) is a traditional Japanese metalworking technique developed by Shoami Denbei in the 17th century, featuring layered, mixed-metal laminates manipulated to create organic, woodgrain-like patterns. It involves fusing precious metals like gold, silver, copper, and shakudo via heat and pressure, then carving and forging them to create unique, intricate patterns often used in custom jewelry. * Lamination & Bonding: Sheets of different colored metals are stacked, cleaned, and bonded together using heat and pressure to create a “billet”.
* Pattern Generation: The billet is carved, drilled, or twisted to expose inner layers, then flattened and rolled to reveal intricate designs such as wood grain, stars, or swirls.
* Materials: Common materials include sterling silver, yellow/red gold, platinum, palladium, copper, and Japanese alloys like shakudo(copper/gold) and shibuichi(copper/silver).
* Finalizing: Patterns are often highlighted by etching or patination (coloring with chemicals) to increase contrast between the metals. #vegasforge

When Ramon from @chavesknives told us he’d never used Damascus before, we were shocked… and we knew we had to work together to fix that!
