Every act of building is an attempt to create space within a specific site. Architecture begins by interacting with the site, altering it, and in the end, becoming part of it. Through this intervention, the site itself evolves, and human experience becomes the true measure of that evolution. A site is real. It’s tangible. Architects learn from it – to perceive, through a cultivated sensitivity, those latent clues from which a design can grow. The perception of site is where architecture’s authentic value begins to take root. In this lecture, Dong Gong will elaborate on his interpretation of site, and how it works as the central component of his design methodology.
