Golconda Fort, Hyderabad.
It was originally known as Mankal, and built on a hilltop in the year 1143. It was originally a mud fort under the reign of Rajah of Warangal.
Golconda fort is undoubtedly one of most magnificent fortress complexes in India. The history of Golconda Fort goes back to early 13th century, when it was ruled by the Kakatiya’s followed by Qutub Shahi kings, who ruled the region in 16th and 17th century.
It was initially called Shepherd’s Hill, meaning Golla Konda in Telugu while according to legend, on this rocky hill a shepherd boy had come across an idol and the information was conveyed to the ruling Kakatiya king at that time. The king constructed a mud fort around this holy spot and after 200 years, Bahamani rulers took possession of the place. Later the Qutub Shahi kings converted this into massive granite fort extending 5km in circumference.
This has been my favorite fort till date!

JAGADAMBA MAHAKALI TEMPLE, Golconda Fort.
This temple is one of the oldest temples in Hyderabad & is located inside the Fort right at the top!
It dates back to the early Kakatiya period. Some historians believe the temple predates the Kakatiya dynasty to the period of Chalukyas kings.
The Jagdamba temple may have been built to enable the soldiers in the mud fort to offer prayers to the Mother Goddess. This historic temple is next to Ibrahim mosque and the king's palace.

Potharaju' is considered as the brother of the Hindu Goddess Mahakali and takes on the role of protecting women carrying bonam. Potharaju is the centre of attraction and adds the much-needed colour and flavour to the Bonalu festival. Bonalu is a Hindu Festival where Goddess Mahakali is worshiped.
The farmers of Andhra Pradesh believe that Potharaju looks after their agricultural lands and crops and protects the crops from dreadful diseases, thieves and animals.

BONALU, SECUNDERABAD, 2024.
PART 1.
Bonalu is celebrated usually during Ashada Masam that falls in July/August. Special poojas are performed for goddess Yellamma during the first and last day of the festival. The festival is considered as a form of thanksgiving to the Goddess after the fulfillment of vows.
Women folk in household prepare rice that is cooked along with Milk, Jaggery in a New Earthen or Brass Pot, which is adorned with Neem Leaves, Turmeric and Vermilion. Women carry these pots on their heads and make an offering of Bonam, including Bangles and Saree to the Mother Goddess at Temples.
Some women face a spell of trace where they dance with the balancing pots to the rhythmic beats made by drums in honor of the Goddess.
