Playing Afro-Peruvian percussion instruments like the cajón and the quijada de burro is one of my favorite things to do on stage. Even more so in Germany, getting to see the amazed faces of the audience when they see a quijada for the first time, not understanding what it is or how such a peculiar sound can come from a simple jawbone.
This video is from a few years ago, but it remains one of my favorites✨ @studi_bigband_marburg always allowed me to bring a touch of my culture and music to a traditional Jazz Big Band. One of the most important things is having the right musicians by your side—people who are open to new rhythms and sounds, and who support you musically every step of the way. I found the most dedicated rhythm section, and especially the most committed drummer, eager to learn and explore new rhythms.
