This one-act theatrical poem weaves lyrical language, dance,movement and an original score into the stories of five characters experiencing homelessness. A trans sex worker, a war veteran, a wheelchair-using skater, a woman with schizophrenia and a busking musician make up an ensemble of characters that tell the story of the unforgiving--and sometimes redemptive--landscape of living in America while experiencing homelessness. This workshop is made up of a majority of cast and creatives who have personal experience with homelessness and housing insecurity. In-Person and LiveStreamed April 21-23. A one-act play presented in audio form, following five unhoused characters from various walks of life. My experiences as an unhoused sex worker, the experiences of fellow unhoused people I've known, and the experiences of those with intersections that would have resulted in homelessness under slightly different circumstances, were all inspirations for the work.
Lived experience really is the best source of information about any community. I hope that these stories, some of which can never again be conveyed by their subjects, will educate and inspire compassion, empathy and change.
