witch house is a niche subgenre in electronic music, peaking in popularity in the early to mid 2010s. it’s maximalist music, loved for its dark atmosphere and dream vocals. big synths underline epic melodies and sampled rap, while slightly out of tune bass structures the track. this genre had small scenes across the globe with groups like SALEM and CRIM3S by now having a cult status in music history.
it’s the first electronic music genre i discovered on the internet at age 13. i was completely obsessed with it and it was my favourite genre for many years. today i share a journey through my archive, focused around the year 2014. From more dream like slow hymns to explosive and fast production to the trap influences that influenced the genre.
picture was taken on my first week in berlin now almost 6 years ago. remember i mentioned witch house to someone i just met and he responded he loved it too. it shocked me because it was the first time i ever met someone who also knew what it was.
