Varsity Blues rowing retained the Terry & Aileen Stevens Cup to win ‘The Challenge’ on Saturday, a now 100-year old rivalry regatta versus McGill.
U of T earned victories in two of the four races while posting a lower cumulative time in total.
From event staff to student coordinator, from kinesiology student to future physiotherapist — Joaquina Yuen’s journey with the Varsity Blues has been built on passion, purpose and community 💙
For the past five years, she’s helped bring Varsity Blues women’s hockey to life behind the scenes at Varsity Arena, all while balancing graduate studies, hockey and her dream career in healthcare.
Now pursuing her Master’s in Physical Therapy at U of T, Joaquina says the people, memories and connections she’s made through the Blues have shaped who she is today.

This Saturday (May 2) will see another meeting between the University of Toronto and McGill University rowing programs for “The Challenge”.
Beginning at 8am from the Argonaut Rowing Club, the traditional rivalry showdown will feature four races on the Lakeshore Channel.

Varsity Blues women’s hockey alumna Gabrielle De Serres tallied 4 points (2G, 2A) across 5 games for Team France at the 2026 IIHF Women’s World Championship Division I Group A in Budapest this past week, helping the national program finish first overall and earn promotion to the top division.
