Powder coating isn’t just about making wheels look good.
It’s about building a finish that’s engineered to last.
Unlike traditional wet paint, powder coating creates a far more durable and resilient surface that helps protect against chips, fading, corrosion, UV damage, chemicals, and everyday wear from the road. It’s one of the many reasons we utilize it throughout our finishing process here @variantwheels
But durability is only half the story.
One of the biggest advantages of powder coating is the nearly endless range of colors, textures, gloss levels, metallics, candies, clears, and custom effects available. Whether the goal is OEM+ subtlety or a finish that completely transforms the personality of the vehicle, the possibilities are virtually limitless.
Every wheel tells a different story.
The finish should too.
From gloss blacks and brushed clears to custom Prismatic blends, translucent finishes, satin textures, and color-shifting effects, powder coating gives us the ability to create something tailored specifically to the build instead of settling for “close enough.”
Performance. Longevity. Customization. Protection.
That’s why powder coating has become the standard for premium wheel finishing.
Most people think custom wheels stop at size and design.
Truth is… the finish changes everything.
Walking through the shop today, I saw a set in a flat gold finish that reminded me we probably don’t talk about this enough:
Just because a finish isn’t listed as a “standard option” doesn’t mean it isn’t possible.
Through our partnerships with companies like Prismatic Powders, the possibilities are nearly endless. Satin bronzes, wild metallics, factory-inspired tones, translucent finishes, textures, clears… if you can dream it up, there’s a good chance we can build it.
When shopping for wheels, don’t settle for what’s on the dropdown menu.
Go find the color that actually fits the vision for the build, send it over, and we’ll make it happen.
That’s the advantage of building wheels to order instead of pulling them off a shelf.

Mac Monday 🏁 White 720S sitting stupid low on a set of AURE Raw Milled Monoblocks.
Double staggered fitment.
Zero room for error.
Exactly how a McLaren should look when the specs are actually engineered correctly.
Highway rollers.
Twin turbos screaming.
And a fitment setup that makes people replay the reel three times before they even realize why it looks so different.
Most people throw wheels on a car.
This is what happens when the fitment is built specifically for the platform.
The AURE continues to become one of the most dominant wheel choices in the McLaren community for a reason.
Aggressive without trying too hard.
Clean without being boring.
And concavity that completely changes the profile of the car once it starts moving.
Some wheel setups look good in photos.
Others completely change the personality of the car.
This 720S on a set of AURE Raw Milled Monoblocks does the latter.
Double staggered.
Slammed on its nuts.
Fitment dialed down to the millimeter.
And somehow… it still looks factory in all the right ways.
There’s a reason the AURE has become one of the most requested styles in the McLaren community. The design works with the body lines instead of fighting them. Sharp where it needs to be. Aggressive without looking forced. Technical without losing elegance.
On a car this low, the details matter even more.
Offset. Brake clearance. Barrel sizing. Suspension travel.
One wrong measurement and the entire setup falls apart.
This one doesn’t.
Just raw milled aluminum, proper fitment engineering, and a 720S sitting exactly how it should’ve from the factory.
For years, we’ve been asked when Variant would enter the off-road space.
The answer was always the same: when we could do it the right way.
Built for those who demand more from their trucks, trails, and equipment, our all-new beadlock-capable (BLC) collection brings Variant’s forged wheel engineering into the off-road world with a design that goes beyond one fixed setup.
Two ring styles.
Two mounting options.
One wheel.
Run it clean with a Fauxlock™️ ring for an aggressive street-ready look, or convert to a true beadlock setup when the terrain demands it. The flexibility to choose now, change later, and build the wheel around the way it’s actually used.
This is not just our entrance into off-road.
It’s our statement.
Beadlock Capable. Built Without Compromise.
Not every truck lives on pavement—and not every wheel should be limited to it.
The Beadlock Capable Series was developed to bridge the gap between daily drivability and true off-road performance. Each design is engineered to function in two environments: clean and refined for the street, or fully capable when conditions demand more. This isn’t a one-purpose product. It’s a platform built to adapt.
⸻
Dual-Purpose by Design
Every wheel in the Beadlock Capable lineup features an integrated mounting platform that allows for both faux beadlock and true beadlock configurations.
Run a faux beadlock ring for an aggressive, finished look while maintaining standard tire mounting for everyday driving. When it’s time to hit the trail, convert to a true beadlock setup to mechanically clamp the tire bead—reducing the risk of de-beading when running lower tire pressures in sand, rocks, or technical terrain.
One platform. Two configurations. No compromises.
