Flashback to August 2019!
The kids were so little, giving the caravan a quick wash before we hit the road again after a 4 month work stint in Darwin ๐

We spent the weekend at @seaworldresort , we got a great deal with brekky & theme park tickets included for all 4 of us. Turns out the kids are ride junkies. We all agree the Jet Rescue Coaster at Seaworld and Wild West Falls at Movie World are our family favourites (oops we didnt get photos of these rides). We had a great time, got lots of rides as the lines were short, kids loved watching the shows as well as meeting the characters. And the Oceanarium also deserves a mention ๐ฆ ๐ ๐ ๐ก. So much fun packed in to 3 days! The theme park tickets are valid for you whole stay including day of check in and day of check out. We stayed in a premium room with 2 queen size beds, view of the pool and a bath ๐ perfect for families ๐

Book Week ๐ 2023
We are back at Lake Somerset for a couple of months before heading back home to Tassie. The kids were super excited to be back at kindy & prep in time for the book week parade ๐๐
Our Off Grid Setup
- powered by @solarnsat
We have 1850w of solar on the roof, 2x 270ah Shervey Lithium batteries, Victron Multiplus 3000w Inverter, 2x 9kg gas bottles, 3x 95L water tanks and a grey water tank.
Our fridge is the Thetford 275L Compressor 12v fridge/freezer which runs off the batteries.
Our hot water is 240v or gas, we mostly run off the batteries using the inverter, but gas is a back up for low solar conditions.
We mostly cook on a portable induction plate using the inverter, but have a 2 burner gas hob for when conserving power. We also power the microwave, toaster, kettle, rice cooker, blender etc...
We have a Truma Vario Gas Heater for the cold evenings/mornings and it works a treat (we had this in our last van too)
So far we've used less than half a bottle of gas, however we still wouldn't go fully gasless as you dont want to be caught out not being able to cook or have hotwater if the weather turns. A few times in our last van we needed to head to a powered site to top up due to extended cloudy and rainy conditions. Having both gas and solar also allows you to travel in any weather to any location.
We have a 3kg front loader washing machine which runs off the inverter and uses approx 20 litres of water on a quick wash cycle.
Our aircon runs from our system, during the middle of the day it runs purely off the solar input and doesn't deplete the batteries.
We've lasted 10 days off our 3 water tanks when needed. We also carry a fleximake water bladder when we know we'll be away from water sources.
Last but not least, we carry 2x Thetford Toilet Cassettes. Dont want to end up in a shitty situation ๐คฃ

We've just spent 5 nights at @sandstoneparkqld , a short 5 min drive from Carnarvon National Park in Queensland.
This place is off grid camping at its best. Large sites, great views, campfires, dump point, toilets, amazing sunrises & sunsets, and pet friendly ๐BYO water and firewood and you are good to go ๐
We camped here with very good friends of ours and enjoyed a campfire each night and walks through Carnarvon Gorge most days.

Reece also went for a solo hike, he went all the way to the end of Carnarvon Gorge to Big Bend then back via Boowinda Gorge, Wards Canyon and the Art Gallery. Totalling 22.6km for a walk/run trail, he took 5 hours and then returned to show us the pics ๐ธ

Today I (Gem) hiked 6.4km return to Boolimba Bluff. Over 1000 rock steps/stairs and a few ladders up the gorge wall to 200m above Carnarvon Creek. This walk certainly isn't for the faint hearted, but I surprised myself and powered up the climb and was rewarded with views above the tree tops out towards the distant ranges. Then lots of steps to come back down again. I really enjoyed this walk, or maybe it was the couple of hours to myself ๐คช

Today we hiked 10km return to the Amphitheatre and back to the carpark via Moss Garden. Proud of the kids, this is their longest hike km wise! We took 4 hours total, including driving to and from our campsite and some snack stops. Most of the walk was a fairly easy and well maintained sandy track, a couple of rocky sections, 4 or 5 creek crossings to rock hop over and a few ladders and steps to keep us on our toes. We came back to the van and had pancakes for late lunch ๐ฅ ๐
