"This week, following a series of negotiations, Ridglan Farms reached an agreement to sell a substantial majority of its dogs to groups that offered to purchase the animals," a spokesperson for the company said in a statement.
Ridglan Farms struck the deal with Big Dog Ranch Rescue, a Florida-based nonprofit, and the Center for a Humane Economy, an animal welfare advocacy organization based in Washington, D.C.
Big Dog Ranch Rescue said on its website that nearly 1,000 beagles will be coming into its care. The terms of the deal and purchase price were not disclosed."

Melo is a 5.5-year-old beagle who began life in a breeding facility (Marshall BioResources) before being sold into a pharmacological research lab.
He was later rescued by Happy Paws Rescue in New Jersey on December 17, 2024 and adopted by my husband and I on February 1, 2025.
He was 4.5 years old when he was rescued from the lab.
After sharing a photo of his ear tattoo on Reddit, Rachel Kepnes from Beagle Lovers and Rescuers helped identify that he came from Marshall BioResources.

In the early hours of 20 December 2022, 18 beagle puppies were rescued from a life of animal testing at MBR Acres.
But not all of them made it to safety.
Two of the dogs, Love and Libby, were captured by police and, on 23 December at around 4pm, were returned to MBR, where they would face a short and painful future.
What many people don’t realise is that even when these dogs are rescued, they’re often still not truly safe. Legally, they are classified as property, which means they can be taken back at any time.
Because of this, telling their stories and protecting them can be incredibly difficult.
Love and Libby’s situation is just one example of a much larger issue that continues behind closed doors.
