Last week was International Dance Day and I could not honour this dance that became my passion, my healing and my profession. Samba, one of the identities of Brazil, a dance that combines culture, dance, art and deeper healing through the play of drumms. This dance has my heart for many years, I deeply appreciate everything I learnt through and with it. I am beyond proud of performing and expressing this form of art in Ireland. For becoming not only a professional Sambadancer, but also a propagator through my teachings and all the knowledge pass onto to me by the best Samba instructors of Rio Carnival scene. Samba, I will continue spreading your message with responsability, knowledge, passion and commitment. And when my feet can't dance this dance anymore, you don't need to worry, cuz I will be leaving a story and a legacy in my journey. Minha homenagem à Imperatriz, à todas as escolas de Samba e ao Carnaval. São quase 8 anos que vivo a magia desse espetáculo que considero o maior teatro que combina música, arte, dança e cultura. Eu sou imensamente grata por ter nascido na cidade que celebra esse espetáculo, e por fazer parte dele em alguns momentos. Esse ano meu coração se dividiu entre viver mais um ano na Sapucaí ou retornar a Irlanda para cumprir a agenda com minha equipe da @riosoulsamba e representar o Samba nos maiores eventos de Dublin. Foi difícil abdicar de desfilar no Carnaval oficial, mas eu sabia da importancia do meu trabalho aqui na Ilha. Ainda sim, eu precisei saciar essa vontade e viver esse amor de pisar no solo sagrado do Sambódromo. Tive a honra e prazer de participar do ensaio técnico da Imperatriz, escola com o qual desfilei ano passado, com o qual desenvolvi grande carinho e afeto pela comunidade e que descobri ter feito parte da trajetória dos meus pais, que moraram no Morro de Ramos. Desfilar pela escola foi honrar a trajetória deles que frenquentaram a quadra até quando eu estava no ventre da minha mãe (deve ter vindo daí meu amor pelo Samba!) The Lady in the Tutti-Frutti Hat, Carmen Miranda had Samba in her heart in her vains. Carmen was brought to Brazil when she was only 9 months old. Growing up in Rio de Janeiro and around Lapa area, Carmen absorbed a lot of the Brazilian culture, speciallly Samba. She was the biggest Latin star of her time, getting featured in several Broadway and Hollywood series and movies. She is still considered a Brazilian icon, full of personality, life, colour and "Brasilidade". One year of Rio Soul Entertainment: “If I can see it, then I can do it!” All started with a vision. Maybe dreamy and magic, maybe crazy and unattainable. But we couldn’t move forward without trying.
