《Imprint: Memories of Stone and Sea》
The exhibition employs ”Stone“ and ”Sea“ as central ontological metaphors to investigate the dialectical tension between the permanence and transience of memory.
Van CHENG interrogates the boundary between the ”replica“ and the ”original“ through a strategic transposition of their positions. By integrating anthropogenic artifacts into natural cycles and situating raw lithic materials within a civilizational gaze, Cheng seeks to establish a discourse between the brevity of human existence and the expansive duration of geological time, mediating the deterministic laws of natural evolution.
Vanessa LO engages the fluidity of the marine environment as a conceptual vessel, capturing the ephemeral moments where time—akin to the tidal pulse—undergoes a process of recurrence, dissipation and reconfiguration. Utilizing the haptic density of stone, Lo ”crystallizes“ fragmented memories, transmuted into silent, eternal incisions.
Through divergent material scales, both artists construct a rigorous philosophical inquiry into the essence of temporality, documenting the indelible imprints inscribed by time upon the physical world.
