9️⃣YEARS!?!? What!!! I can’t believe it’s been 9 years since @nikkolas_smith and I got married!
Cinco de Mayo for us is VaNikko Day. 💕 We have so many amazing memories from that day and our unforgettable party in the heart of LA. Nikkolas and I hadn’t been dating for long when we got married, and yet I never doubted this decision. We had our first date in June 2015 after both swiping right on Tinder, and then, remained friends (made him wait) for a year and a half. He met my parents at my birthday party in March 2016 and they fell in love with him before I did. I finally made up my mind in December 2016 and 5 months later we tied the knot. Nikko, we have had 9 incredible years together and sharing this day with our boy for the last 5 years has been a blast. I love you, I love us. I love what we have created together and I can’t wait to see what other adventures await for us. Happy 9th Anniversary! ❤️❤️❤️

Sunday 🎨🖼️ Art Day with my @zionamaricrocinismith . As we approach the end of the 4-year Preschool chapter, we took all of Zion’s artwork done at school and some done at home or during travels and we put it on two canvases. Art is memory. Art is therapy. I hope Zion will treasure these two “Zion’s original Art paintings” when he grows up. 🥲🩵
✨4️⃣4️⃣✨A number that brings a lot of wonderful meanings in numerology. I’m walking into this year finally starting to feel myself again. The last couple of years have been extremely vulnerable because perimenopause has kicked my butt big time. Nevertheless this past year, while dealing with its worst symptoms, I’ve had some amazing moments. Traveling to China and Japan was definitely the highlight and some of our happiest travels as a family, and falling in love with Shanghai and Osaka. Staying still, being present, getting kisses from my son and long hugs from Nikko, who is so supportive no matter the version of me he sees every day, with bags under my eyes, with tears, or with hysterical laughs, in a pajama or dressed up, as his wife or his business partner or simply a mom navigating ups and downs. Dancing for hours, listening to music that makes you feel so much you get goosebumps or cry. Cuddling with my cat Fela, my furry therapist who cures me with his daily purring sessions. Having fun and trying not to take myself too seriously.
I’m ready to get to know another best version of myself. Rain or shine, I’m showing up. 44 be good to me. Happy Birthday to me. 💫
Not big on the V-Day celebration, but if @nolafontanezphotography does a photoshoot, we are in! 📸🤩 Soaking in the good moments because as Benito said during the SuperBowl, the only thing greater than hate is LOVE. ❤️And as parent that is my mission. Good times at the @naacpimageawards Nominee Luncheon for @nikkolas_smith ‘s nomination for Outstanding Literary Work -Children for his picture book The History of We. I’m so proud of Nikkolas, his vision, his immense talent… This is Nikkolas’ second nomination for a NAACP Image Award. 9 years ago we had our first official outing as a couple at the same Nominee luncheon where he was nominated in the same category for his picture book The Golden Girls of Rio. So much beauty in front of my eyes today that has brought a bit of calm and stillness in the midst of the chaos of these absurd last couple of days. Hearts are heavy, compassion and empathy turn into anger really quickly, the feeling of being lost while being here, in this place that I love and that I call home. I don’t know when things will get better but right now, I’ll let the overwhelming sense of powerlessness be taken over by the beauty of this sunset, that somehow reminds me to stay hopeful, while my 5 year old holds me and tears fall down from my eyes.
BYE 2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣5️⃣✅ 👋 A year of a lot of messy feelings and uncomfortable challenges, physically and mentally all around. Also because the world has gone a little crazy and we are all caught in the middle of its craziness every.single.day. Yet, I’m so grateful.
So grateful for therapy for mental clarity and physical therapy for healing my frozen shoulder.
So grateful for all the projects and work travels with my @nikkolas_smith and all the opportunities to be together with our son around the world. ❤️
So grateful for all the beautiful places we have seen, the wonderful people we have met, and the most incredible food we have eaten in South Korea, China and Japan for the first time.
So grateful for my boy @zionamaricrocinismith who is constantly reminding me to be present. 🩵
So grateful for my friends, my chosen family, for reminding me of the power of community in these trying times. 🫂
So grateful for my cat Fela @felathecoolcat who knows when his purrs are needed and appreciated the most. 🐈⬛🐾

THE HISTORY OF WE written and painted by @nikkolas_smith is OUT TODAY! Published by @kokilabooks / @penguinrandomhouse / @penguinkids , this is Nikkolas’ 10th picture book and his FIRST hand painted book. This is best work yet. He has absolutely outdone himself. I’m so proud of his vision, and I feel so lucky to have witnessed his incredible talent in creating this work of art: his research, writing the manuscript word after word, painting canvas after canvas. The craziest two months where weeks went by fast and nights spent painting seemed so long. Capturing your process and seeing your vision come alive has been incredible. You did it, Nikkolas! You created a beautiful important book that is a powerful reminder of our common roots. The first humans on earth, the first architects, the first astronomers, the first healers, the first swimmers, the first explorers. Our ancestors. The History of We. Nikkolas, your art is powerful, deep and healing. May our ancestors keep guiding you to do this work, so that we, humans, may be kinder to each other in these weird times.
