A response to Cecily Brown’s “A Round Robin” After being star-struck by Cecily Brown’s brushwork at the Serpentine Gallery, I found myself tracing the movement of Kensington Gardens in early April. This painting is less about the landscape and more about the atmosphere, the way the light hits the blossom and turns the world into a blur of motion. Vanessa Lau Yee Fong I Long to Return to the Golden Field of My Dreams, 2025 Oil and coloured pencil on linen 121 x 91 cm Lau Yee Vanessa Fong (b. 1997, Hong Kong) is a London-based visual artist whose practice explores spiritual ascension through a contemporary interpretation of Buddhist philosophies and ancient mythologies. Her work draws from both Eastern and Western mythology to contemplate impermanence, transformation, and the relationship between human emotions and the natural world. Fong’s intricately layered paintings function as visual meditations, sensory spaces where time feels suspended and viewers are invited into quiet introspection. Fong holds an MA in Painting from the Royal College of Art (2024) and a BFA in Fine Art from ArtCenter College of Design (2021). Her recent exhibitions include Good Eye Projects, Saatchi Gallery, London (2026), Celestial Pabulum at Lychee One, London (2025), The Torrent & The Fold at LBF Contemporary, London (2025), Full Disclosure at D Contemporary, London (2025), Malerei at akku Kunstplattform, Emmenbrücke, Switzerland (2024), and I Am Rooted, But I Flow at Maison Lune and MEY Gallery, Los Angeles (2024). #dcontemporary #artcollector

✨ Meet Our First Judge: Vanessa Lau Yee Fong @vane_fong The winner of last years D Contemporary Annual Open Call! London-based visual artist Vanessa Lau Yee Fong works at the intersection of Buddhist philosophy, ancient mythology, and contemporary painting. Drawing from both Eastern and Western traditions, her intricately layered works explore impermanence, spiritual ascension, and the quiet dialogue between human emotion and the natural world. A 2024 MA Painting graduate of the Royal College of Art, Fong’s paintings function as visual meditations—sensory spaces where time slows and introspection unfolds. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including at Saatchi Gallery, Lychee One, LBF Contemporary, and D Contemporary, among others. The second ArtLoft Fellow is Lau Yee Vanessa Fong. @vane_fong Lau Yee Vanessa Fong (b. 1997, Hong Kong) is a London-based visual artist whose practice is rooted in Buddhist philosophy and explores spiritual self-healing through painting. Drawing on both Buddhist thought and Western mythology, her work reflects on impermanence, transformation, human emotion and the natural world. Her intricately layered paintings function as visual meditations, creating sensory spaces where time feels suspended and viewers are invited into quiet introspection. A recurring thread in her work is the desire to transcend earthly boundaries — toward imagined, celestial or spiritual realms — with forms that rise and dissolve in gentle motion, echoing the fluid rhythms of thought and feeling. As part of the programme, Lau Yee Vanessa Fong will have full access to all ArtLoft seminars and will receive ongoing mentorship from the founders — Farah Nayeri (@farahnayeri ), Josephine May Bailey (@procrastinarting_ ), and Annka Kultys (@annkakultys ). - The next ArtLoft takes place tomorrow, 13 Jan, from 6:30–9:30 PM. We are delighted to be welcoming guest speakers @charlotteelizabethhiggins and @josefoconnor 🎟️ Tickets are still available — tap the link in our bio to book your place.
