Van Bhoj @van.bhoj is an exploration of ecological architecture - where land, climate, craft, and habitation are conceived as a single system.
Designed by Revathi and Vasanth Kamath, the house emerges from a reclaimed quarry, its form shaped by existing rock strata and hydrological patterns.
Load-bearing mud walls, random stone masonry foundations, green roofs, and sun-dried earthen bricks create a high thermal-mass envelope that performs seasonally without mechanical dependence.
Spatial planning follows solar orientation, wind movement, and topography - courtyards as thermal lungs, jali walls as porous skins, ponds as microclimatic moderators.
Built through labour-intensive, vernacular processes, Van Bhoj positions architecture not as an object, but as an act of ecological regeneration and cultural continuity.

A secret - sacred mud house on outskirts of Delhi NCR that stole my heart!
This home is truly a living breathing testament of what living, and constructing in accordance with nature, land and wildlife looks like. Designed by visionary architect Revanthi and Vasant Kamanth, Van Bhoj truly inspired me to envision what sustainable living looks like! Details from ventilation, cooling, rainwater harvesting, to the interior walls incorporating figures of gods and goddesses, ancient hieroglyphics and broken pieces of glass. All were evidence of the love and consideration they poured into this creation.
The structure formed of curves and spirals, using remnants of land dug out in mining, breathes harmony into what was once and abandoned quarry. Here is to re-envisioning a new world where luxury and sustainable living go hand in hand.
