Great News Everyone!!
Today Katsuhiro Otomo (creator of Akira) announced that he has founded his own animation studio 😮
And not only that, he’s already working on a movie to launch this new label!
The website of the new studio, called OVAL GEAR, has already explained the two main reasons behind Otomo’s decision: The first one is simple, to create new animated films and bring them to the international market, (specifically mentioning movie theaters instead of streaming platforms). The second reason is to pass down to newer generations of students and animators the traditional way of making animated films, the same craft and techniques Otomo has developed over the last few decades ❤️
Honrstly, can’t wait to know more!! And now I’m really hoping the movie he’s talking about is Orbital Era 👀
Orbital Era was a film he originally started with Sunrise, then got cancelled and left on hold since 2019... The story was supposed to follow a group of young people living in a space station under construction, which sounds VERY Otomo sci-fi.

She’s one of the most compelling Mandalorians we’ve seen on screen. From her time in Death Watch to leading Mandalore, her journey has been full of ambition and loss, she’s not perfect and that’s exactly what makes her so interesting!
I love the team-up she had with Din Djarin and Grogu in The Mandalorian. And with the new Star Wars movie coming out this month… do you think she’ll show up? Nothing has been confirmed, but I’d love to see it!

This is the May ✨
Time for Mara Jade (cosplay made and worn by me)… continuing my Star Wars cosplay series this month 😉
She’s a Legends character, so not canon anymore. In the novels and comics she was the Emperor’s Hand, and later Luke’s wife. Her story is amazing and she’s still a fan favorite (mine included), but George Lucas never liked the idea.
For him, Jedi needed to be closer to space monks, completely detached from personal attachments. The idea of balancing that Jedi life with a partner and family just didn’t fit his vision.
That’s why, even with some Legends characters coming back (like Grand Admiral Thrawn), it’s very unlikely we’ll ever see Mara Jade return in an era shaped by Dave Filoni.
