I invested $26,000 (damn near $30K) into inventory for Valy’s Lash Lab, trusting a vendor with 8,000 lash trays — and the quality wasn’t up to my standards. That didn’t just disappoint me… it set my business back.
People rely on my products for their businesses. So when something isn’t right, I don’t brush it off. I take that personally.
This hit me financially, mentally, and emotionally. I lost momentum, confidence, and yes — customers. And that part hurt the most.
But here’s the part that matters:
I fixed it.

One thing nobody prepared me for as a lash artist was learning how to create SOFTNESS after being so used to full coverage volume sets. A few years ago when I started stepping into softer wispy styling, I struggled BAD because mentally I always felt like if my client was paying for a full set, every lash needed to be lashed DOWN. So every wispy set kept coming out too dark, too dense, too full.
What finally changed everything for me was understanding that styling is so much deeper than just following a lash map. It’s about density, distribution, texture, balance, and knowing where fullness matters and where softness matters.
This set was one of those moments where everything finally clicked for me because I was finally able to give her full coverage WITHOUT heaviness. Grouped spikes, a soft base, strategic fans, lots of classics, texture without unnecessary darkness.
And THIS is why versatility matters so much in this industry. Anybody can copy a map, but understanding styling is what separates a lash tech from an artist.

A lash map by itself does not guarantee a good set.
You can copy somebody’s map exactly — same lengths, same curls, same placement — and the set can still come out wrong on your client.
Because styling is deeper than just following a map.
Every client has a different eye shape, lash line, facial structure, and desired look. What works on one person is not automatically going to work on the next.
That’s why artistry matters.
The map is not the artist.
The styling is.
And once you actually understand styling, your work starts becoming intentional instead of repetitive.
That’s also why the products and tools you’re using matter too. Different curls, diameters, tweezers, adhesives… all of it plays a role in the final result.

Have you ever finished a set… and it just didn’t look right? That’s not always your application. A lot of the time, it’s your styling.
Same lengths.
Same curls.
Same diameters.
Same technique… on every client.
And that’s where things start to fall off. Because every client has a different eye shape, different lash line, and different features. So not every set is going to look right the same way. You can have a full, clean set… and it still not be flattering. Because styling is about how everything comes together. Length, curl, diameter, technique… all of it matters. being in rooms like this, surrounded by so much talent, energy, and vision just reminds me why I go so hard for what I do. this wasn’t just a weekend… it was alignment. when God calls you, you answer. no hesitation. no fear. you just move… and trust that everything you’ve been working for is meeting you on the other side of that yes.
I’m really living in the moment right now. grateful, present, and locked in. because I know this feeling? this level? it only comes from putting in the work when nobody was watching. and now it’s starting to show.

this past weekend at the 2026 BLB Lash Convention & Trade Show was one of the most amazing experiences of my life.
like really sit with me for a second…
I used to walk into this room just trying to learn, take notes, figure it out…
and this year I stood on that stage as a panel speaker. that alone is a milestone I prayed for. cried for. worked for. and what’s crazy is… weeks leading up to this, I kept telling myself “my life is about to change.”
I didn’t even fully know how… I just felt it.
and now I’m starting to see it unfold right in front of me. this is what happens when you stay down, stay consistent, and really believe in what you’re building.
