INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY 2025 – A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of sharing the stage with some truly inspiring women to discuss the unique challenges and joys of being a woman in the Commercial Photography and Production industry here in Vancouver.
It was a very special night where connection and support were felt to the core – and we also had some great laughs!
Thank you @taylorroades for valuing my voice and experience enough to invite me! And thank you to @tillynelsonphoto and @lisakaulback as well for a wonderful event.
All possible thanks to @capicvancouver and @cranestudiosvancouver
Awesome BTS work by @pintercreative

Personal Note: Public speaking -used to- terrify me but I’m so glad I was able to push through and have a great time! Here’s to challenging our brains more often! 🥂
Had a blast shooting with my favourite crew in Tofino a few weeks ago.
Small crew shoots have a special place in my heart. I get to create cool things with friends and call it “work”. Life doesn’t get any better than that.

Bon voyage, ma belle grand-maman d’amour. 👼 🤍🙏🏻
She would’ve hated this photo. She would’ve complained about looking wrinkled and old but she would’ve immediately turned her gaze at me and complimented my youthfulness and beauty instead. « Oh, la belle Valery » she would’ve said.
This picture is from the last night I saw her. I came to visit her in her small Montreal apartment after dinner. She offered me grape juice like she always did and we chatted. She talked about how much she had enjoyed her summers fishing with my grand-papa in their tiny chalet and how much she used to love going to the restaurant for breakfast 3 times a week. She also talked about her sister-in-law with whom she used to go shopping on St-Denis street. It was the small things in life she most longed for. No glamorous outings. No huge travels. No expensive dinners. Just a coffee and a muffin.
That conversation and that last hug will stay with me for ever, along with the feeling of having let go too quickly, left too early.
From her, I inherited my French with a very strong québécois accent. She was the only one I spoke French to, and according to her, my French was always excellent. (She was lying)
I also inherited her stubbornness, her feet and her need to sway from side to side while standing.
She taught me how to tell fortune using playing cards even if she didn’t really believe in it. My grandpa used to say she was a witch and I like to believe some of that lives in me.
She was a strong, selfless and hardworking woman who even on her last day, did her best to avoid being an inconvenience to others.
I’m proud to be her granddaughter.
Toujours dans mon cœur ♥️
