“What I put in to my work is a mirror of my psyche. It is how I experience the world. Not visually, but viscerally. It is also a projection of states I’ve went through over many years spent gripped by wild paralyzing anxiety, endlessly swinging between one bad mental state into another. I thought that was just the way I was, and what will always follow me. And I didn’t have the language for it. Hence I guess the aesthetic I’m using, which feels natural to my grim and distorted experiences. Like the right mediator. Through it we can connect — not through logic or language, but on a deeper level. If I tried to explain them in words, I’d probably fail. And whoever listened won’t be able to understand either. But through images, maybe something else happens. Maybe a deeper connection becomes possible.“

With an emphasis on boundary-pushing live electronic music, Hunger to Create aims to take audiences beyond the possibilities of recorded music or a typical clubbing experience. Curated as always by sound artist and Klubnacht regular Dasha Rush, who favors techno, ambient and experimental music, this edition of the series features Ukraine-born, Netherlands-based Limewax, bringing a high-impact and immersive live set of industrial sounds and shadowy DnB. Also performing is Helene Vogelsinger, who uses modular synths to create ambient, drone and experimental compositions that are full of texture, resonance and emotional depth. With a mischievous but no less experimental approach, interdisciplinary artist Juliana Huxtable will offer an unorthodox, genre-bulldozing DJ set, while Sofya Shaikut & Valentin Tszin will add a ceremonial visual element to the night through their butoh performance.

ASTERION II: BODY AS LABYRINTH
Butoh Workshop by Valentin Tszin
May 11-15, 12-16:00 @ Theater Pool Berlin | Application link on profile
This workshop is not a continuation.
It is a descent.
Art work by @sergeyskip
Asterion is not a character.
Asterion is a space that breathes through the body.
Inspired by the text of Jorge Luis Borges, we enter the logic of the labyrinth, a structure without exit, without center, without outside.
What if the body itself is this labyrinth?
ABOUT THE WORK
In this workshop, we approach butoh not as form, but as condition.
We explore: • the body as an internal architecture • repetition as existence • stillness as movement • isolation as perception • the disappearance of intention
Movement is not expression.
Movement is a corridor.
Each state is a room.
Each action is a delay.
PRACTICE
The work is based on deep physical and perceptual transformation.
Participants will engage in: • long-duration stillness and minimal movement • exploration of weight, gravity, and collapse • spatial repetition and internal pathways • distortion of habitual body structures • voice as resonance, not communication
At times, nothing will happen.
This is part of the work.
FOR WHOM
This workshop is for: • performers, dancers, actors • artists working with body and perception • anyone interested in butoh beyond aesthetics
No prior butoh experience is required.
Only the willingness to enter unknown states.

Valentin Tszin is an interdisciplinary artist, performer, choreographer, film and theatre actor, and teacher. Born in Vladivostok (1984), he is currently based in Berlin. His work operates at the intersection of Butoh, physical theatre, and acting.
He graduated as an actor at the Far Eastern State Academy of Arts and later studied Master SODA at HZT /Berlin University of the Arts (HZT). His artistic language has been shaped by physical theatre, martial arts, and Butoh, which became central to his exploration of body and perception.
Tszin has created and participated in over 50 stage projects and performed internationally at platforms such as Atonal Berlin and CTM Festival. Alongside his performance work, he appears in film and television.
He is also actively engaged in teaching: he has taught at HZT / UdK Berlin and regularly leads international workshops, intensives, and labs. His pedagogical approach focuses on the body as a source of knowledge, working with perception, intuition, and states of being. He is the creator of the method Das Gegenteil, combining butoh, theatre, and perceptual research.
Portrait of Valentin Tszin.
Valentin is launching a new iteration of his butoh workshops very soon in Berlin. My strong recommendation for your body, and your subconscious.
I designed this 10-day workshop as a process of immersion into working with the body, perception, and performance creation. For me, movement is a way of thinking, and the body is a tool for research and artistic expression.
I invite dancers, actors, performers, and anyone interested in expanding their language through the body.
* a single or few days participation is possible. DM

Part 1. Introduction to the method
23.3-27.3 | 12:15:00 | Boxhagener Str. 18, 10245 Berlin
During the first 5 days, we will explore the foundations of my method Das Gegenteil. I approach the body not as a form, but as a source of perception.
We will: • develop sensitivity and awareness • work with states and presence • explore principles of butoh and physical theatre • deconstruct habitual movement patterns • connect body, imagination, and space
For me, this stage creates the foundation for the entire process.
Part 2. Stage. Presence. Creation
31.03-04.04 | 12-16:00 | Eisenbahnstraße 21, 10997 Berlin
In the second block, we will begin developing original material. I will support you in moving from exploration into shaping an individual or collective work.
We will: • generate and develop movement and imagery • work with impulse, attention, and structure • explore composition and stage presence • develop your individual artistic language • work with feedback and mentoring
For me, this stage is about articulation and creation.
What you gain?
This process offers both tools and experience. • deeper connection to your body • expanded perception and range of states • understanding how to create performance from within • access to my method and approach • experience of a shared laboratory
‘Butoh Batoru’ returns to Berghain tonight! Stripped, raw and built as a machine of bodies, sound and real-time confrontation. This edition expands the field with a continuous techno duel by @dasha_rush_official b2b @mieko_suzuki_ and including dancers and performers operating on the edges of butoh, hybrid forms and underground movement research. Over two hours, 14 improvisations by 8 performers unfold through escalating formats: low frequencies, shadow cuts, proximity and rupture. The night becomes a real-time system studying tension, decay and emergence.
⚡️ LIVE PERFORMANCE ⚡️
₳₦₳₮Ø₥Ɏ ł₦ Đł₴₮ØⱤ₮łØ₦ by @unhumangr and @valentintszin
A live intervention built from shared history inside Berlin’s darker underground. Unhuman dissects rhythm into distortion. Rupture mechanics, skin becoming static, pulse devoured and reassembled. Valentin Tszin enters as counter-force. Together they construct a field where sound and body grind against each other - a stripped anatomy of impact, nostalgia and transformation.
