🇺🇦 Last Friday in Paris, we brought Art, Not Empire to life at the Cultural Center of the Embassy of Ukraine.
Organized through
@echoesfromukraine together with the
@etudiantsukrainiens.fr and
@shadows.project , the evening opened a conversation on how Ukrainian cultural voices have long been misattributed, absorbed, or erased within imperial narratives and why reclaiming them matters today.
🎨 In the first discussion,
@astavychenko and
@naomi.nemickas explored how figures such as Kazymyr Malevych or Maria Bashkirtseva were often presented through Russian or Soviet labels, shaping global cultural canons.
🏛️ The second discussion, with
@dasha_pidhorna joining directly from Kyiv and filmmaker
@sindbadguggenheim , focused on the protection of Ukrainian cultural heritage during wartime.
✨ The evening also featured a cultural interlude with works by
@vitalinavitalina ,
@daria_krokhmalna and
@mariana.krokhmalna , as well as the screening of the short film “Mariupol. A Hundred Nights” by Sofiia Melnyk and Andrii Palatnyi, part of the Cultivation ecosystem founded by Vlad Troitsky.
🤝 Huge thanks to everyone who helped bring this evening to life, especially
@lyubovsmachylo @politicsofdetails @_samovarova_ ,
@daryna.antonenko ,
@alexa_shd , the
@etudiantsukrainiens.fr brilliantly led by
@anna_d_bazarna and
@amily_monro ,
@mariya_oleksa for the amazing moderation of the panels and the entire team behind the event.
A powerful moment bringing together artists, students and voices committed to keeping Ukrainian culture visible and alive.
