🍄🍂 Wonderful collaboration with
@vachina2021 for two walks in the beautiful #EppingForest themed ‘Fungi & Us: connections across space and time’.

🌳 We spent time with the ancient Forest and its #fungi network, heard stories of how people’s relationship with the trees and lopping practices shaped the space as we see today. We reflected on what death and cycle of life mean for the natural world and how nature can inform and support us in rebuilding relationships between the individual, the collective, the environment we are in, the land and nature that nurtures us, and the experience of life and death.
We learned to identify key native tree species from the fallen leaves, and also drew inspirations from the Forest and the interconnectedness of the ecosystem, doodled and sketched as we go. We felt grounded, connected, supported, nurtured and fascinated by the abundance of the autumn Forest.

🥾 On the day of the Double Ninth Festival (29th October), we followed the ESEA tradition to walk to a higher ground, High Beach in Epping Forest, while discovering the Forest’s many wonderful fungi along the way.
We then brought our observations and impressions from the #fungiwalk and used looms to weave fibre structures inspired by the #mycelialnetwork. We reflected on the relationships between fungi and the Forest, people and the place, past and future, and with words and threads, we attempted to develop new #heritage narratives: about adaptation, connection, and the creation of new possibilities. Thank you
@high_beach_church_loughton for hosting us!
These walks are part of the ‘Epping Forest Heritage For All’ programme, a three-year project that is fun by
@eppingforestht in partnership with Muslim Hikers and Black Girls Hike. It is funded by
@heritagefunduk and supported by
@coleppingforest who owns and manages the Forest.
