The Math Department recently had three professors all named as recipients of the 2026 Simons Fellowship. This prestigious fellowship is only awarded to 50 professors across all math departments in both the US and Canada and helps to fund the costs of research leave outside of the classroom. Congratulations to Professors Alexei Poltoratski, Dima Arinkin, and Andreas Seeger!

âď¸STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP SPOTLIGHT: Annelise Alvin is a Junior studying Mathematics for the Physical and Biological Sciences with certificates in Physics, Data Science, and Environmental Studies certificates. She is also a peer mentor with the Physics Learning Center, a program assistant with the L&S Honors Program, and a member of the Undergraduate Gender Minorities in Math at Wisconsin Club!
As a recipient of the Augusta Schurrer Undergraduate Student Support Fund Award, Annelise shared how this award has impacted her experience here at UW-Madison.
