Perry Henzell’s The Harder They Come is a Caribbean film shot and set in Jamaica, this crime movie introduced the world to the music of reggae and became noteworthy for its realistic portrayal of black Jamaicans and the use of Jamaican Patois Internationally famous singer Jimmy Cliff plays Ivanhoe Martin, a poor young man who arrives from the countryside to Kingston with big dreams to become a famous singer. Ivanhoe unfortunately learns that the entire Jamaican music industry is controlled by the scrupulous music producer Mr. Hilton (Bob Charlton), who pays his singers pretty much nothing for their music. Disheartened, Ivanhoe instead gets himself into the illegal ganja trade and gains infamy after killing a policeman.
