Congratulations to Associate Professor Angeline Chiu for winning the Kroepsch-Maurice Excellence in Teaching Award for 2025-2026!
Pictured at the annual Boston MFA trip, Dr. Chiu brings enthusiasm for Latin language and culture to her teaching, incorporating field trips, reading journals, and creative projects tailored to students’ interests. Her classes are energetic, inclusive, and encourage student engagement. She empowers students to take responsibility for their education while remaining supportive.
Kolton Fitz-Gerald is also a published author, who writes fiction novels and short stories. He says, “My end goal with Spanish is to be able to eventually speak it fluently enough and to be able to write it fluently enough to translate my books into Spanish.”

Every Spring, the Chinese Program hosts a talent show for first and second levels, and a speech contest for third and fourth levels.
Students come together for a fun evening with snacks, silly skits and compelling speeches, a character writing competition, the opportunity to practice their Chinese listening skills!
On Wednesday, Linguistics Capstone Seminar students presented their wonderful research at the Student Research Conference.
Over the past semester, these students gained hands-on experience with corpus analysis software and practiced discourse analytic techniques in preparation to design their own original research project.
Congratulations to these students on a great culmination of all their hard work🎉🎉
This past Saturday, SWLC students took a trip to the Boston Museum of Fine Arts for a guided tour of the ancient civilization exhibits by classics professor, Angeline Chiu. Thank your to professor Chiu, all the students who attended, and SWLC for this wonderful trip!
All faculty, majors, minors, and anyone who would like to be one are encouraged to join us for an end of the year celebration! Let's celebrate another great year in the School of World Languages and Cultures🎉

Do you have any language fun facts?
“I learned some Tz’utujil when I was in Guatemala, which is one of the 21+ indigenous languages of Guatemala. I am studying in Peru next Spring and I am excited to learn some Quechua. I also speak a small bit of Latvian, a language I would like to learn better because I have a lot of family in Latvia still.”
¡Felicitaciones! A big congratulations to all our students who were just inducted into the Spanish Honor Society (Sigma Delta Pi)🎉🎉
