BDF x Utopia Presents 🤝 What will the @utopia_presents crew will be bringing in their bag this weekend? If you haven’t met them yet, Utopia Presents will be running the music late into the night @brixtonjamm on Saturday. Emerging from London, Utopia is a label, collective and community platform hosted by JJAMZ, KISA, Emil James and D’Cruz. Rooted in the legacy of boundary-pushing spaces like Plastic People and collectives such as Bugz in the Attic, they champion Deep & Soulful House, Afro-Electronic, Broken Beat, Boogie, and more. They’ll be joined by @closecounters performing their full live show. We’ve asked the Utopia crew, one track they’ll bringing along with them this weekend - this is what they chose… @ballrolljamz … Scott Grooves - Expansions ft. For our first get-down of the year, we’re excited to welcome @richmedina from across the pond to @mot.ldn With over three decades behind the decks, Rich is a true DJ’s DJ and a respected cultural ambassador in the scene As the visionary behind Jump N Funk - the Afrobeat party that helped propel Fela Kuti’s legacy from the dancefloor to Broadway stages worldwide, Medina has played a key role in shaping how audiences experience African diasporic music. Through his HOME residencies in NYC and beyond, he pays homage to Larry Levan and the foundations of classic New York club culture. During the heyday of his iconic APT parties in the NYC Meatpacking District, he also collaborated with hip-hop legends like Q-Tip Beyond the booth, Medina has produced tracks with the likes of De Lata and Phil Asher, and has delivered lectures at his alma mater, Cornell University Rich Medina joins us in the classic Bermondsey garage, Venue MOT for a late night fixture. This March we welcome the one and only @djkennydope to @thefoxandfirkin ! One half of legendary Masters at Work duo, the Brooklyn-born icon has been at the forefront of dance music culture for decades, and now he’s bringing that energy to South London. Born and raised in ‘70’s Brooklyn, Kenny began absorbing hip-hop beats at local block parties, before becoming a buyer for local record shops, developing encyclopedic musical knowledge and a love for digging. His work spans remixing legends, producing groundbreaking albums like Nuyorican Soul, and releasing underground hits on his labels Dopewax and Kay-Dee Records. Kenny’s fingerprints are all over music that moves generations. Come open-minded and expect a real dance floor education in broken beat, house, hip-hop and more.
