United Teachers Los Angeles demands justice and accountability for the unchecked violence and killings in our communities by federal immigration agents, and an end to militarization and occupation here and abroad.
This reckless administration continues to wreak havoc, violence, and trauma on the people of this country and other nations under the guise of “public safety.”
The reality is that this administration has created a public safety crisis by enabling armed and masked agents to use force and violence to criminalize and racially profile immigrants and US citizens, target marginalized communities, and prevent people from upholding constitutional rights.
The brutality must end, especially at a time when local, state, and federal officials have consistently called on the federal government to invest in the resources working families truly need — education, health care, housing, access to food — instead of indiscriminate terror in our communities.
We demand justice for those who have been abducted by ICE and those who are now missing.
We demand justice for those shot, some losing their lives, at the hands of ICE agents: Keith Porter Jr., Renee Nicole Good, Silverio Villegas González, Yorlenys Betzabeth Zambrano-Contreras, and Luis David Nico Moncada.
We demand justice for the heartbreaking trauma inflicted upon their loved ones.
We demand justice for the terror inflicted upon our communities.
ICE out of LA. ICE out of every city. End the militarization and occupation of our neighborhoods, our communities (and now even our SCHOOLS), and of those in nations abroad.
They said ULA was killing housing production.
So the housing movement pulled up with economists, union workers, affordable housing developers, tenants, and RECEIPTS.
Last Friday, our coalition presented data and analysis to the ULA Ad Hoc Committee about what ULA is actually doing for Los Angeles.
Turns out the sky is not falling. ULA is delivering, the false claims are not holding up, and weakening ULA would have devastating consequences for the people already struggling to stay housed.
Affordable housing is getting built. Families are receiving support. People are staying housed. We cannot let City Hall reverse course now.

Last week, UTLA and other education worker unions lobbied together with LAUSD to protect state funding.
UTLA President Cecily Myart-Cruz said at Thursday’s press conference in Sacramento that, in the fourth largest economy in the world, the state should close corporate tax loopholes before redirecting money away from education.
"These priorities are upside down,” Myart-Cruz said. “Keeping Prop 98 funds in our schools is simply a matter of following the law, and it is doing what is right. We are talking about urging the state to prioritize student investment over corporate welfare.”
Students and educators showed an outpouring of support for Dawn Wilson during a walk out last Wednesday morning.
Educators at East Valley Skills Center say the principal is retaliating against Wilson through a loophole in a new law designed to give CTE teachers a path to permanent status.

Dawn Wilson has been an adult education computer teacher for LAUSD for 24 years and has made a difference in the lives of thousands of students over her career.
Last week, the principal of North Valley Occupational Center, and its satellite campus East Valley Skills Center (EVSC) where Wilson teaches, told her that she has to resign or she will be dismissed.

In a historic showing of unity and power, a coalition of educators, school administrators, labor leaders, and elected officials joined together for a day of action at the Capitol to demand that Governor Newsom end his effort to withhold $5.6 billion in Proposition 98 school funding.
The CA Assembly released its Budget Roadmap shortly after, which included a commitment to protect Prop 98 funding. “The Governor’s January proposal shortchanged schools by billions. The state Constitution requires those dollars to flow — and they will,” read the Assembly Democrats’ report.
“As the fourth largest economy in the world, California MUST reinvest its wealth into public schools —because communities can’t afford to wait for Sacramento to catch up. We call on Gavin Newsom to release the $5.6 billion proposed withholding of Prop 98 funding and invest in the future of public education in our great state.” – Richard Barrera, San Diego Unified School District President and Candidate for California State Superintendent of Public Instruction.
