𝑻𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒊𝒔 𝒔𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒘𝒆´𝒗𝒆 𝒃𝒆𝒆𝒏 𝒘𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒄𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒅 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑬𝒎𝒃𝒆𝒅𝒅𝒆𝒅 𝑺𝒊𝒍𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆. A generational silence passed down like an heirloom we never asked for. But this — and the courage it takes to break it — does not belong to us alone. It belongs to every man and woman whose truth was quietly taken — by controlled doubt and confusion. Pukaro Naam Baba Ka Pukaro is a qawwali composed by Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan in praise of Baba Farid. Sufism is grounded in divine love, not bigotry or exclusion. Historically, Sufi dargahs in South Asia have served as open, non‑judgmental spaces that welcomed people from all religions, castes and classes; the culture appeals for kindness, affection and equal treatment to everyone. There is no hierarchy of male over female in the inner path; early mystics like Rabi‘a al‑Adawiyya taught that the true lover of God belongs to no gender or sect. Sufi teachings encourage humility, compassion and respect for others, sometimes challenging rigid social or political interpretations of religion. Comments that call us “foreign” or accuse us of “stealing culture” ignore this history: the Chishti tradition in India has always included seekers from diverse backgrounds. Ilahi’s members come from Pakistan, Canada, Sweden, India, Russia, the Philippines, Colombia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Indonesia and beyond. Our goal is to support anyone, especially women who wants to learn qawwali, regardless of origin. We offer this glimpse into our practice in the spirit of those teachings. May the love and wisdom of Baba Farid remind us that the true measure of a path is its kindness, its humility and its ability to embrace everyone. We pray that this music inspires peace, respect and generosity in all who hear it.
