Rendered in muted blues and pinks, "Monolith" captures a quiet, haunting beauty. The iceberg, isolated and eroding, becomes a symbol of impermanence, fragility, and obsolescence in the face of a warming planet. As it melts, it echoes a slow, inevitable disappearance, reminding us that even the most formidable structures are not immune to time and climate. ___ Rebecca Pletsch "Monolith," 2025 Oil on canvas, 4 x 6 ft.

Andre M. Hoggan's method begins with natural fibers harvested from his surroundings. Plants such as milkweed and yucca are processed into pulp, which is then manipulated onto a steel armature, relief, or woven element. The combination of materials inspires a textured and organic figurative form. ___ Andre M. Hoggan "Not Me Looking Back," 2024 Flax, milkweed, sisal, jute, polyester, and steel, 52 x 24 x 7 in. McGarren Flack's piece, "Mind in Two," won a Juror's Award at this year's Statewide Annual exhibition. Here he touches on his artistic inspirations, such as beauty, colors, shapes, and time spent as a paramedic.

This piece is based on an experience the artist had while working as a paramedic with a woman who believed there were children living in her closet. When paramedics investigated, they found no children, only rotten food just outside the door. The woman was taken to a hospital to be evaluated and was diagnosed with schizophrenia, which means "mind in two." The mirror represents what was in her mind, children with good food available, while the viewer's side of the mirror shows reality, no children with rotten food. Not all schizophrenia is visual and most of the time it is diagnosed between the ages of 18 and 25. This woman was in her 30s. ___ McGarren Flack "Mind in Two," 2022 Oil on aluminum composite, 76 x 48 in.
