Salt Lake City 5.14.2026

Hundreds marched through Utah State Capitol today in resistance of @kevinolearytv 40 acre AI data center which Box Elder commisioners unanimously voted to approve last week.
Utahns were denied public comment at the hearing, under commisioner's threat of law enforcement, but the outpouring of verbal outcry, shames, and boos from the community sent commissioners running to another room where they made their decision over a zoom call (shown only on screen), only to vote to approve anyway.
Utahns are a policitically divided population, but the issue of a massive data center impacting wild Utah, further devestating the already dying Great Salt Lake, and lining the pockets of billionaires has all sides coming together on a united front.
O'Leary recently released comments that protestors were flown in and paid to resist the measure. Standing in the crowd of locals from across the state at 10:30am on a weekday morning, it's clear it is not paid out of state protestors fighting back, but Utah.
We don't want you here.
If you can join: THIS THURSDAY — A RALLY ROOTED IN LOVE OF PLACE
Over 5,000 Utahns have signed our open letter to Governor Cox opposing the rushed Stratos data center project. On Thursday May 14 at 10:30 AM, we’re delivering it together — on the South Steps of the Utah State Capitol.
We’ll be joined by a choir, a faith leader, and local leaders from Box Elder County — people who live on and love this land — to lift our voices for Great Salt Lake and the communities, wetlands, and wildlife that depend on it.
This isn’t just opposition to a bad project. It’s an expression of what we value, what we cherish, and what we refuse to sacrifice for a rushed deal that state records show was negotiated on the developer’s behalf from the start.
Governor Cox has said he hears the concerns. We’re showing up to make sure he feels them too.

this one took a while, but it's special to us 🥹
we first met @liban4congress at the beginning of this year to discuss his campaign.
after an hour-long conversation covering his past, his campaign, and the future he envisions for utah, we walked away feeling inspired.
if you've ever had the honor of speaking with liban, or hearing a speech of his, you know that he speaks with passion.
he gives you a feeling of hope— something that is desperately needed at a time like this.
liban is a truly progressive candidate that is for the people and by the people— and the people know it!
ben mcadams beat nate. ben mcadams beat michael. but liban mohamed beat ben mcadams— now we do it again 🙏🏼

Come Stand Up for Our Foster Care and Unsheltered Population‼️
Make no mistake: this is simply criminalizing poverty.
This proposed amendment will disproportionately impact young people transitionng out of foster care—specifically in the region with the highest density of youth aging out in the state.
As someone with lived expertise who has spent years driving change within youth homelessness right here in Salt Lake County, I have seen and helped to create what works.
From helping secure over $3 million to prevent and end youth homelessness, to personally bringing 52 FYI housing vouchers to Salt Lake County by advocating directly to HUD, I know the path forward.
I can tell you with certainty: this proposal is a step backward, not forward.
This will have devastating, long-lasting impacts on a population that has already been failed and ignored.
Please show up Tuesday May 5th, 7pm at our City Hall (451 S State Street, enter east side, 3rd floor)
