In a drought year, heightened common sense IS fire sense. As of May 6th, 85% of the 125 fires in 2026 have been human caused.
In 2025 vehicles and equipment topped the list of human-caused wildfires.
Stay safe this summer!!
Don’t park on dry grass.
Tighten your trailer chains to keep them from sparking against the asphalt.
And check your tire pressure and brakes before you hit the road.
Some people call it a hot girl walk 💅🔥, we call it a pack test.
No running allowed. Just 3 miles, a 45-lb pack, and a 45-minute deadline. This is the annual Work Capacity Test, also known as the "Pack Test", a mandatory standard for our wildland firefighters to ensure they’re physically prepared for the rigors of the fireline. 🌲💪
It’s about more than just fitness; it’s about safety, endurance, and making sure everyone comes home at the end of the shift.
#OgdenBayRx Continued Prescribed Burn 🔥
Fire crews will continue prescribed fire operations at the Ogden Bay WMA on May 5, 2026.
This work helps reduce hazardous fuels, improve wildlife habitat, and restore wetland health by treating invasive vegetation like Phragmites australis.
Smoke may be visible in the area. Please avoid the burn unit and follow posted signage for your safety.

Spring is a great time to prepare your home for wildfire season.
Taking a few simple steps now can help reduce your risk later in the year:
• Clear leaves and pine needles from gutters, roofs, decks, and around your home. Dry debris is one of the most common ways embers ignite structures.
• Limb up trees and shrubs near your home to reduce ladder fuels and improve defensible space.
• Make sure your address is clearly visible from the road to help emergency responders locate your home quickly, even in smoke or low-light conditions.
These small actions can make a big difference later.
