Dallas can have it all.
For months, Dallas residents have been warned that a vibrant, world-class southern downtown district can only happen if City Hall is abandoned and the land turned over for a massive private sports and entertainment development.
A newly released master plan, the result of a collaboration between a senior design studio of UTA CAPPA and the 10 Presidents (all former Presidents of AIA components), shows that simply isn’t true.
Read about their visionary proposal, CitySouth, on our website.
Our Spring 2026 Graduate Hooding Ceremony celebrated hard work, perseverance, and growth. As we reflect on the event, we are proud of the Class of 2026’s achievements. ARCH 4557 // Desert Dichotomies
This studio investigated Arid and [Ant]Arctic desert imaginaries through the lens of a changing climate and its effects on their landscapes. Students visualized and codified the complex relationships between and spatial narratives of human and non-human geographies, tethered together through nuances of climate, land sovereignty and imagined futures, despite their inherent dichotomy. Narratives materialized into architectural, geographical and representational investigations and imaginings.

UTASOA faculty take Chicago! 🏙️✈️
Our faculty recently returned from the 114th @acsanational Annual Meeting, exploring the theme: Convergence / Divergence: Designing Futures in Architecture and Education. This year’s conference framed design as a dynamic field shaped by both alignment and fragmentation—a space where shared methodologies coexist with the disruptive approaches driving innovation in how we teach and practice architecture. Against the iconic backdrop of Chicago, the meeting positioned design thinking as a transformative agent for solving contemporary societal challenges.
We are especially proud to highlight @shermeenyousif , who contributed to the conference with her paper presentation: “From AI Representation to Performative AI.” Dr. Yousif’s research pushes the boundaries of human-machine collaboration, moving AI beyond simple visuals and into “performative agents” capable of encoding ecological design strategies. Proud to see our faculty leading these vital national conversations!

📸 Snapshots from the Arlington Urban Design Center (AUDC) Showcase
For more than 15 years, the partnership between the Institute of Urban Studies and the City of Arlington has nurtured a space where students don’t just learn, they contribute. They step into real neighborhoods, collaborate with real clients, and design with real impact in mind.
This year, the showcase celebrated the work of three talented students — Eylul Basak Cetinkanat, Zoey Kriethe, and Avigail Gutiérrez — whose projects beautifully blend creativity, technical skill, and a genuine commitment to strengthening Arlington’s communities. Their designs don’t simply reimagine spaces, they uplift the people who use them. 🏙️💡
We’re incredibly proud of this year’s cohort and grateful for a collaboration that enriches both our students and the city we’re honored to serve. 💙🧡
