🎬 USW graduate opening doors for the next generation of filmmakers A group of film students have gained paid traineeships on a new short film, thanks to the passion of USW graduate, Andrew Creak. Andrew, who completed his MA in Film last year, is Director of Lights, Camera, Cymru!, a skills development programme created with Screen Alliance Wales and Caerphilly Arts Development to give aspiring actors and film crews industry-standard placements. The programme’s latest short film, Over the Rainbow, premieres tonight at Chapter Arts Centre in Cardiff. Inspired by The Wizard of Oz, the film follows Frankie as he wakes in a dreamlike version of Oz while navigating the anxieties of a new relationship. The production also features Welsh actor Steve Speirs as the voice of Tik-Tok. Four USW students worked on the film’s post-production through traineeships – gaining hands-on industry experience and helping bring the project to life. 👏 Best of luck to Andrew and the team for tonight’s premiere. #WelshFilm #CreativeIndustries #Cardiff

“Elite and physical sports can still feel male-dominated, but that is changing, and rightly so." This International Women’s Day, we’re proud to celebrate USW alumna Kathryn Deverson, owner of Proactive Chiropractic & Sports Injury Clinic and Head of Medical for the Cardiff Devils 🏒 Since graduating in 2019, Kathryn has built an inspiring career in sport, travelling with rugby and GB teams, championing multidisciplinary care. Alongside running her clinic, she also serves on the CPD and Communications Committee for the British Chiropractic Association, mentoring final-year students and newly qualified practitioners as they begin their careers. We spoke with Kathryn about her professional journey, the obstacles she has overcome as a woman working in a traditionally male-dominated field, and how she embodies this year’s International Women’s Day theme, “Give to Gain”, by creating opportunities and championing the next generation. Her journey is a powerful reminder that when we support and uplift others, we all move forward. Link to full article in our bio 🔗↗️ #InternationalWomensDay #IWD2026 #GiveToGain
