Thank you to CTV and MPP West for highlighting the urgent action we need to take on Occupational Disease. While investments and opportunities for critical minerals are nice, we will not accept preventable deaths of workers.

Thank you to our MPP, Brother West for asking this important question in the legislature. We fail to see how reducing employers premiums, and giving rebates helps workers like Ron. 47 of our members have died since 2001 to occupational disease, and 179 Ontario wide in the last 10 years. Workers in the mining industry need real protections if a critical mineral expansion is to be successful.

Workers are getting cancer after decades of exposure to dust and elements due to improper ventilation - yet WSIB has not stepped up to the plate to ensure these workers see justice. Workers are not disposable. Read more through the link in our bio.

Pick up a copy of the Toronto Star today and support good local reporting. Huge thank you to the families who spoke up, and the excellent work from the star. Critical Minerals can't be developed on expendable lungs.... #miner #cdnpoli #sudbury

May Day is about worker power--and today, USW 6500 showed exactly what that looks like. Our members have delivered a strong strike mandate vote of 97.64% supporting our bargaining committee sending a clear message to Vale: we are united, we are prepared we aren't afraid of a fight. Solidarity built our movement. Solidarity will carry us forward. -USW 6500 Bargaining Committee

In 2022, the Ontario Ministry of Labour revealed that 87% of all mining industry fatalities were linked to Occupational Disease. Between 2011 and 2021, 179 workers died in Ontario due to illnesses they contracted from their work in mining. We cannot be silent anymore...

Yesterday, Laura Walton President of @onfedlab and Minister of Labour @davidpiccini joined us underground at Vale's Coleman mine. It was an amazing opportunity to showcase our hardworking members in action. If we are to have stronger and safer outcomes for critical mineral workers, labour, employers and government must be working side by side. #silica #CriticalMinerals #onpoli

It was an emotional and productive meeting yesterday discussing occupation disease with the Minister or Labour @davidpiccini . Our members, widows and families shared stories and pictures with the minister of loved ones gone too soon. No one should contract a fatal disease, simply because of the career they chose. As a labour leader, we are committed to making occupational disease socially unacceptable, and welcome more dialogue with the ministry in the very near future.
