From the “Mecca” of wheelchair tennis in Southern California to the front courts of the US Open. For USTA Director Jason Harnett, the goal has always been deeper than the score: “Sending a thousand juniors to college to get a degree.” 🎓 As wheelchair tennis marks its 50th anniversary, we’re celebrating the transformative figures, from Brad Parks to rising stars like Charlie Cooper, who proved that anyone who loves high-level tennis will love the wheelchair game. ♿️🎾 🔗Tap the link in our bio to read about the “Mount Rushmore” of the sport and the fight for NCAA integration. #WheelchairTennis #AdaptiveSports #USTA #TennisLife #Paralympics

There are people who inhabit a tennis court, and then there are people who give a court its soul. On April 30th, we lost a true treasure in Gordon ZawTun. Whether he was directing a major tournament or offering a quick tip to a student, Gordon did everything with a smile. Rest in peace, Gordon. You are a champion in the ways that truly matter. We invite you to read our tribute to the "Quiet Architect of the Desert Courts." (🔗Link in bio)

Together again. 🕊️ USTA Southern California mourns the passing of Annette Buck, Hall of Fame inductee and former Director of Adult and Senior Tennis. Reunited with her lifelong partner, Jim, she leaves behind a legacy that helped shape Southern California tennis. A visionary leader and champion for inclusion, Annette’s impact stretched from player development to her pioneering work with the International Wheelchair Tennis Open. More than anything, she made every player feel seen, valued, and welcome. We celebrate a life beautifully lived and a legacy that will continue to inspire our tennis community for generations. 🔗Read more on our website (link in bio).

They call him “Learner” for a reason. 🧠📐 Built on the public courts of Irvine and sharpened right here in the 949, Learner Tien has officially entered the world’s elite. From his USC Trojan days to dismantling the world’s best, see why Grand Slam-winning coaches are calling his left-handed artistry one-of-a-kind. (🔗Link in bio)

You may want to compete every week, but the secret to long-term success is Periodization. You need to work backwards from your big goals and schedule in "blocks." Give yourself 2–3 weeks of focused training for every tournament cycle. Use that time to fix technical gaps and get comfortable on different surfaces. SoCal Pro Series starts in two weeks! Instead of chasing points across the country, you can use these local stops to test your game in a controlled, high-level environment. #Annacone'sAdvantage #TournamentScheduling #USTASoCal #SoCalTennis #SoCalProSeries

A Giant on the Court. A Friend to the Game. 🕊️🎾 Today we remember Jason Collins, not just for the barriers he broke in the NBA, but for the joy he brought to our Southern California tennis courts. From 13 years in the league to being a beloved #USTASoCal Adult League player, Jason lived his life with authenticity and a "Keep your racquet up" spirit. He reminded us all that it’s never too late for a second act or a new passion. We will miss his laughter, his competitiveness, and that unforgettable 7-foot presence at the net. 🔗Click the link in our bio to read our full In Memoriam article.

From 1930s Hollywood glamour to the world-class stages of the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, the Coachella Valley has officially been named a USTA Southern California Tennis Town. 🌴🎾 🌵 This distinction honors a century-long legacy of visionaries who transformed a desert oasis into the ultimate "Tennis Paradise." It’s more than just a tour stop; it’s a thriving ecosystem where homegrown stars rise and the next generation competes at the Easter Bowl on the very same courts as their idols. We celebrate this title as a tribute to the pioneers, coaches, and players who have made tennis the heartbeat of the valley for 100 years. 🔗 Check out the story on our website to see more of the valley's historic tennis journey.
