Surprise. Some friends and I decided very last minute to open a small record store when an awesome space became available in the building with @sanantoniogold and @southdistrictbarberco . We’ve got a lot more records to price and get out on the floor but we have enough ready that we figured it’s time to open the doors. March 14 at 9am - come buy some records, drink gold coffee, get some food from @kewtieboysando , and we’ve got DJs playing records until 5pm. 1913 S. Flores. SATX.
There were a few years before Covid hit and a little while afterwards that I was lucky enough to hang around Augie Meyers semi often. Augie was still a commanding force on stage even in his 70s and early 80s, whether playing his own shows or walking up on the stage to play with friends for a few songs. He was also a treasure trove of absolutely mind blowing stories from his years of touring all over the world and rubbing elbows with pillars of his generation of musicians. One of the coolest things about him was that he was completely excited to get on stage or record with younger people who wanted to play with him. I also can’t remember a time he ignored any of my phone calls to ask him some nerdy question about a San Antonio record he was a part of or to ask about some local musician he might have known long before my time. Augie’s music was part of the soundtrack to the lives of multiple generations of Texans but his musical influence also extended far beyond the Lone Star State. He’s gonna be missed big time. RIP Augie Meyers.
Goodbye 25. Walked up behind the house as the sun set and realized I’ve got some clearing to do for a cleaner view in 2026. Literally and figuratively.
Not sure if it’s the weather lately, or turning 40, but I’ve been leaning into the nostalgia with my listening choices. This was a big one for me as a teenager it when came out in ‘99. Excited to see @bouncingsoulsnj Sunday night.
Went digging around South Louisiana for a couple days earlier this week. Here are five killer albums from that region of the world, nowhere to be found in streaming land, that now reside in South Central Texas.
When Covid was still raging, a few friends and I got to visit with Flaco Jimenez at his home in San Antonio. Before leaving, we were about to take some pictures with him and his Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. He laughed and asked me to hold it for some reason. He was the coolest. The kinda cool that is dying with his generation of Texas musicians that isn’t going to be known again. Rest in Peace 👑 Thanks for all the music you left us. Photo by @joshhuskin
I’ve got a healthy amount of Willie stuff laying around, so I figured I’d share this one for his 92nd Birthday. Taken in 1969, here’s Willie Nelson, with Jimmy Day on steel and Paul English looking sharp in the back on drums, playing at Randy’s Rodeo in San Antonio. That’s Jimmy Day’s signature on the photo. Happy Birthday Willie Nelson. 👑
