In this episode of At the Edge of It All, Adriana Cuéllar, associate professor of architecture at USD, shares her journey into architecture and her focus on border regions as sites of design and research. She discusses the origins of the Border Design Lab and its work in the Tijuana River watershed, including sewage contamination and its impact on communities. Meet Lucan Rhatigan, a first-year planning to major in physics and visual arts. After meeting Matthew Dominick ‘05 (BS/BA), a USD engineering alumnus and NASA astronaut, Lucan found inspiration for the piece you see here, which will soon be displayed in the Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering.
You may already recognize his work titled Gargantua, currently on view in the Donald P. Shiley Center for Science and Technology. Inspired by the black hole depicted in the movie Interstellar, the piece reflects Lucan’s interest in blending scientific concepts with artistic expression.
Head to our Linktree to read more about Lucan’s work! #interstellar #space #cosmos #painting #artist
