If white brick is on your radar, read these 6 things that no one really talks about (but they should!)đ
1ď¸âŁ Natural White Brick (like Belle Meade) means no painting or repainting - ever. Our color is baked on, meaning it wonât peel off or need paint overtime.đŠâđ¨
2ď¸âŁ The undertones of a white brick come from the natural clay body color. Belle Meade (shown here) has a neutral tan body whereas Magnolia brick has a brown body, and Avalon has red.
3ď¸âŁ For the MOST cohesive overall white brick exterior, go with an ivory or white mortar. (Ivory usually creates the brightest overall appearance - more on this đ in our stories today!)
4ď¸âŁ Red clay from construction sites can quickly stain the bottom of a brick house, but your landscaping will likely hide it.đł If you want to prevent this entirely, lay down straw or plastic beforehand!
5ď¸âŁ Construction or moisture stains are bound to happen with any material, but theyâre super easy to combat and remove with brick. A pro masonry cleaner during or after install will do the trick!
6ď¸âŁ White brick looks darker after it rains - donât panic! It returns to normal as soon as it dries.đ¨âď¸

In downtown Charleston where historic homes sit shoulder to shoulder, an empty parcel of land is almost unheard of. Yet for decades, a sliver of unoccupied space remained in Radcliffeborough, one of the cityâs most established historic neighborhoods.âď¸
Due to its non-conforming 30â x 100â footprint and strict zoning and preservation regulations, it was largely avoided until Boyd Architects took on the challenge in 2025. They looked to the formal Charleston Single House, pulling key elements from the classic structure to create a modern interpretation that now sits comfortably between its historic neighbors.đĄ
The Radcliffe House is clad in Belle Meade brick, laid in horizontal and vertical running bond patterns to create subtle shadow play across the home. Around the openings, Flemish bonds with recessed headers serve as a nod to the historic shutters commonly seen in the area.

Save these tips for when youâre tasked with making exterior selections!
1. Before breaking ground, determine what your material options are.đ§ą
Ask your builder or supplier whatâs available because understanding whatâs feasible upfront WILL save you from falling in love with something that may not be available.
2. Sampling takes time, but itâs worth it!đ¨
Builders often work on a tight schedule so itâs always wise to plan ahead. Visit a showroom and ask for addresses that use the materials youâre considering. This is often the fastest way to narrow down a handful of options.
3. Request site panels for your final picksâźď¸
Once youâve narrowed it to 1-2 combos, ask for sample panels built on your lot. Youâll see exactly how the brick and mortar look together in your lighting, on your property.
