Gas prices are up 40-50% since the end of February. But I’ve been wondering, who is paying more during this crisis. We decided to do a deeper dive on how oil spikes have created unique challenges in Black communities. There are no simple solutions but you can find and refer great businesses to ByBlack in the transportation industry. A new report from @ctia.everythingwireless , “More for Less: The Wireless Affordability Tracker,” highlights how the wireless industry continues to deliver increasing value to consumers—even as prices decline. Drawing on advertised pricing for unlimited and prepaid plans, alongside government data, the report shows that wireless services are becoming more affordable while performance and access continue to improve.
Key Highlights:
📉 Over the past five years, typical unlimited plan prices have dropped 19%, while more affordable options have declined by 40%.
📊 Government data reinforces this trend, with the CPI for wireless services down 4.1% last year, even as overall prices rose 2.7%.
💰 The average American now spends just 1.7% of their budget on wireless—down more than 15% since 2020.
“Wireless is one of the great consumer success stories of our time,” said Ajit Pai, President and CEO of CTIA. “Prices are down, speeds are up, and the value Americans get from their wireless service has never been greater.”
