It’s been ten years since I lost my friend. I could tell you about everything since, but I’ll start with one photo, the one that launched it all. You know the picture. Charlie on a mountaintop, Ray-Bans, cutoff M81s, a belt-fed machine gun, cigar in his mouth looking like some kind of action figure. We all laughed, because that wasn’t the Charlie we knew. We got the goofball. The guy who’d tackle me onto a couch just for simply walking into a room. But that that same photo became the first shirt I handed out at his memorial. From there, the world met Chuck through that image. And somehow, it captured all of it. Equal parts savage warrior and the guy yelling to a stranger down the street, “hey lady, nice dog!” That photo didn’t just define him, it started something. A legacy that’s only grown louder with time. Because he never really left. His impact was never just a memory. It’s the community he built, still living, still moving, still bringing people together. Chuck requested that if anything ever happened to him, he wanted a song played.
