I really have this new found urgency to yap about the collection which really hasnt happened before!!!!. I want to tell you about the prints and mostly about the camo print me and my boyfriend created for this collection. So i said before I wanted to explore girlhood and the act and performance of being a ‘cool girl’ which we grab onto in order to survive turning into an adult meeeeeh. When I started thinking of this I started to think about wanting to create a uniform of a cool girl, making the performance part of it kinda the point.
And I am in no way putting down or calling out the cool girl act, i use it myself its a great tool!!!!!
I started looking for cool girl signifiers, on the internet, at the studio etc. Ive noticed three signifiers: worn camo prints, polka dots and houndstooth accessories. I was thinking about all these sygnals, how random they are, but how we still pick them up, wear them, hoping they place us somewhere. I decided to merge them into one print, not as a solution but almost like an exxaggeration. Like what if we are all performing some version of ourselves, what if we make the performance visible? The print is not made to help you blend or fit in somewhere, its more to show how we try to, its not really about becoming that girl, more about noticing how we all try to be one sometimes and kinda finding comfort in that aspect of girlhood because we all do it? Only the titles of what specific girlhood we aspire for are different. Its not real camouflage, it doesnt actually hide you, if anything it makes the whole thing more obvious. Its like saying to another girl, IM ALSO TRYING REALLY HARD TO BE A REAL PERSON AND UNDERSTAND NOTHING.
The print, every piece of it was drawn by my boyfriend, how lucky is a girl to have a boyfriend able to make anything she wants??? Some boys are ok I have to admit…He also helped me develop the Besta bag btw which sold out in the first two days EVEN THOUGH IG SEEMS TO TRY EVERYTHING FOR NOBODY TO SEE NOTHING NEW. So anyway here is the story of the print, which nobody asked for, I DONT KNOW WHY???
