Urban Cultural Lens | UR-MU Urban Museum
Dedicated to the evolving story of the city, UR-MU Urban Museum offers a contemporary perspective on Kuala Lumpur’s cultural and architectural identity. Through immersive exhibits, photography, film, and design-led storytelling, the museum captures the rhythms, memories, and transformations that shape urban life.
Thought-provoking and deeply reflective, the space invites visitors to engage with Kuala Lumpur beyond its skyline — revealing the layered narratives, communities, and creative energies that define the modern city. Muse wears Farah Khan.

It was an honour to welcome YB Hannah Yeoh, Dep Minister of Finance Liew Chin Tong and DBKL Mayor Datuk Seri Tpr Fadlun at UR-MU +n last Tuesday.
Thank you for taking the time to walk through our space, engage with the works, and share conversations on the importance of arts, culture, and public spaces within the city. Visits like these remind us that museums are not only places to preserve objects, but also places for dialogue and community.
We truly appreciate the support and interest shown towards what we are building at UR-MU +n. May there continue to be more room for the arts to grow and reach wider audiences.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Samsudin Wahab, or fondly known to many as Buden, a fiercely imaginative artist whose works helped shape a generation of contemporary Malaysian art.
From print-making and painting to sculpture, performance, and installation, Samsudin moved fluidly across mediums, building worlds where fantasy and reality collided. His works carried emotional tension, strange figures, rural memory, and reflections on the unpredictability of life itself.
At UR-MU, we are honoured to house several of his works within our collection. His presence continues to colour our museum, not only through the visual intensity of his works, but through the questions, discomforts, memories, and conversations they leave behind within the space.
His works remind us that art can be instinctive, vulnerable, unsettling, and deeply human all at once.
Thank you, Buden, for the worlds you built and the traces you leave behind.
Al-Fatihah.
UR-MU, after hours.
For one night only, the museum shifts with art coming alive, poetry echoing through the halls, alongside art debates and live performances. A different kind of encounter with the museum.
From 8 PM to 10 PM, wander through UR-MU @ Toffee and move between moments that call to you. A single ticket qualified you to all events and activities happening in the night, so plan your time and interest ahead.

Where it all begins.
The Genesis Collection gathers 38 early works from 16 artists’ traces of thought, instinct, and experimentation shaped during their undergraduate years. Across new media, painting, sculpture, and ceramics, each piece holds a moment of becoming, still in motion.
During this short yet significant time, we invite you to be a part of these beginnings.

We come to the end of Architecture of Devotion at The Project Room by UR-MU with a quiet conversation alongside Dr. S. Chanthiran, an artist who has spent over 48 years in devotion to his practice. Sharing space with a mind and body of work like his has been, in many ways, a privilege we are still learning how to hold.
Perhaps exhibitions don’t really end but linger in what they leave behind.
If anything, we hope this one carries forward the hopes and intentions of those before us, for future generations to keep observing, learning, and preserving the beauty of culture and knowledge, and to remain curious about where they come from.

For Museum Week, we’re stepping out of the gallery and into the streets of Bukit Bintang. Ever wondered what once existed beneath the now-busy Bukit Bintang? That’s the same question we had too.
Join us and discover a few interesting facts and stories that live between these buildings and roads.
