Our 2026 Grassroots Program kicked off with a high-energy first activation in San Juan, La Union, on April 14, where we engaged 20 promising young surfers in comprehensive athlete monitoring and performance evaluations. With incredible sadness, we share the news of the passing of our brother, Vincent Mabansag, a beloved son of Guiuan and a pillar of our surfing community. He passed away in February 2026. Our deepest condolences go out to his family, loved ones, and everyone whose lives he touched. If you know Guiuan, you know Vinz. He was kindness in its purest form—always ready to lend a hand, always willing to show up, always putting others before himself. The Calicoan Odyssey Waves would not be what it is today without his dedication and contribution. Beyond being one of the driving forces behind the competition, Vinz was a passionate board shaper, crafting boards with the same care and heart that he gave to people. His hands shaped more than surfboards—they helped shape a community. Vinz had a quiet strength and a generous spirit. He believed in uplifting others, in building something bigger than himself, and in sharing the stoke with everyone around him. That was his gift to us. As we remember him, may we carry forward the way he lived—help when you can, show up when it matters, and give freely without expecting anything in return. In doing so, we continue his legacy. We are stoked to share that the distribution of boards have started in the Philippines. 🙏🌊 Logistics has not been the easiest- first sending the boards from Aus to PH then to different PH towns. We are thankful to @upsa.ph and our partners who have made it all possible. The beach clean-up is still in full swing here at Baybay Boulevard, with the competitors working hard in keeping the shorline clean and event-ready. At the same time, final preparations are underway as we fix and secure the surf tower to ensure everything is set for tomorrow’s event. On-site registration is currently ongoing.
