Huge thanks to our amazing Kaumatua - Richard Nahi who gave up an evening last month to share his perspectives and help us all better understand the founding documents of Aotearoa. Take time, understand the history, feel the hurt, and work in harmony to move forward and try and heal the wounds of the past.

Another amazing session at Centorian Reserve in Windsor Park on Sunday. Over 30 volunteers came along, including over 20 students from @rangitoto_college . We're busy removing weeds and think we are finally pulling them out quicker than they are growing now 💚

Happening this Sunday - we'd love to see you (and your mum?) out with us. Let's show Papatūānuku (mother earth) some love on Mothers Day 💚 We'll be weed busting so if you want to get some hands on experience identifying and dealing with some of NZ"s invasive weeds - this is the place to be.

Honouring the Declaration of Independence and Te Tiriti o Waitangi and understanding the concept of Tino Rangitiratanga is a journey for Tauiwi. Ngāti Whātua o Kaipara, Kaumatua Richard Nahi and Tiana invest energy and resources into supporting the Upper Waitemāta Ecology Network to learn and increase our understanding of Aotearoa’s commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and Māori, as we work in partnership to support Kaitiakitanga to regenerate Papatūānuku. Ngā mihi nui Richard and Tiana. We will take our learnings and work hard to make positive change. @ngatiwhatuaorakei @ngatiwhatuaokaipara @upperwaitemataecologynetwork @greenhithecommunityecology @thelandingnz @kai_rakau_project @sustainableparemoremo @habitathobsonville @aklcouncil @aucklandcouncil_local #tetiritiowaitangi #tinorangatiratanga #kaitiakitanga #tangatatiriti #papatūānuku

Go on, lock this one in your diary now! Chances are you have driven past this site and not given it a second thought but it is an ambitious project to restore and protect a vital blue - green corridor that will be established ready to protect native wildlife when the land around is developed. Join the Living Whenuapai team as they clear weeds from around plants that were planted last year.

Our Governance Team are looking out for a secretary to join them as they solve the planet's problems (or at least start by increasing biodiversity in Upper Harbour). Sound like something you want to get behind? We're asking for 2 - 3 hours a month to prep for and support meetings. Your contribution will no doubt go way beyond "just" taking notes as we'd love you to share your views, draw from your experience and add your knowledge to discussions as well. Want to find out more, meet the team or think there may be another "back office" ay you'd like to support our work? Get in touch with [email protected]

Today we joined the monthly volunteer restoration activity at Centorian Reserve with @upperwaitemataecologynetwork Participants in this session were mainly young people, along with some adults. Over the past year, ongoing efforts from volunteers and local residents have contributed to multiple rounds of weed control and ecological restoration. A number of native plants were planted last year, and further planting is planned as part of the ongoing project, with the aim of establishing native vegetation across the stream banks. Due to the rapid growth of invasive species, regular maintenance is still required. Visible progress has been made, with some areas now largely cleared of invasive plants. During today’s session, a significant amount of work was completed, and several garden waste bags were filled. Upcoming working bee sessions: 📍 Location: Centorian Reserve (meet at the footbridge via Constellation Drive walkway) 🕙 Time: Sunday 11 May, 10:00am Sunday 8 June, 10:00am The activity is open to the public, family-friendly, and no prior experience is required. More information: .nz/centorian-reserve You are welcome to join and contribute to the ongoing care of this local reserve.
