The Gawad Pangulo is a special award given by the Office of the President in recognition of exemplary members of the university community who have manifested the standards of honor, excellence and public service.
The awarding ceremony is happening on June 26, 2026 as part of the Buwan ng Unibersidad celebration of the University of the Philippines.

The University of the Philippines Mindanao was established on February 20, 1995 after an almost 30 year campaign by UP alumni pushing for the university to be brought to Mindanao. The decades-long campaign argued that UP had opened its doors to multiple regions in Luzon and in Visayas but has yet to cater to Mindanaoans. It was officially launched on September 28 of that same year, 163 days after R.A. 7889 was signed. The task force behind the conceptualization of UP Mindanao were composed of volunteer professors across University colleges working together to ensure the continued operation of UP Mindanao a success.

The University of the Philippines Los Baños is a campus where myth and memory intertwine — embodied in the images of Mariang Makiling that watch over the campus. Across UPLB, the legendary diwata appears in many forms. The most famous of which is “Mariang Banga” or “Dalambanga” — a statue so iconic, it has inspired both campus lore and curious misrememberings. Some insist she lifts her banga above her head, not at her side. Others dread the superstition that seeing it lowered foretells failure in their final exams. Mariang Banga is the oldest of the Maria sculptures in UP Los Banos, it was destroyed during World War II and was later restored.

Sa pagdiriwang ng Buwan ng Panitikan ngayong Abril, nilayong paksain ang isa sa mga adbokasiyang pangwika — lalo na ng mga katutubong wika sa bansa — ni Jerry Gracio. Ang pagsasalin niya sa klasikong kuwentong pambata na “The Little Prince,” sa Waray ay pagsisilbi niya sa komunidad at sa kaniyang sinusong wika.
Sa panahong hinahamon ang katatagan ng mga wika sa bansa, isang mahusay na paalala ang libro upang kapulutan ng aral at maglakbay na rin kasama ng prinsipe, sa mundong tinatahak ni Gracio para sa ikauunlad ng pambansang panitikan.
