Did you know? The University of the Philippines Mindanao was established on February 20, 1995 after an almost 30 year campaign by UP alumni pushing for the university to be brought to Mindanao. The decades-long campaign argued that UP had opened its doors to multiple regions in Luzon and in Visayas but has yet to cater to Mindanaoans. It was officially launched on September 28 of that same year, 163 days after R.A. 7889 was signed. The task force behind the conceptualization of UP Mindanao were composed of volunteer professors across University colleges working together to ensure the continued operation of UP Mindanao a success. Did you know? The University of the Philippines Cebu is the school that, in the face of towering odds, refused to die. From its early days without a permanent home during the American Period, to its closure during World War II and eventual return in 1945, the campus weathered crisis after crisis — emerging each time. Not just intact, but transformed. The campus has defied expectations time and again with the support of the UP community and the people of Cebu. Did you know? The University of the Philippines Los Baños is a campus where myth and memory intertwine — embodied in the images of Mariang Makiling that watch over the campus. Across UPLB, the legendary diwata appears in many forms. The most famous of which is “Mariang Banga” or “Dalambanga” — a statue so iconic, it has inspired both campus lore and curious misrememberings. Some insist she lifts her banga above her head, not at her side. Others dread the superstition that seeing it lowered foretells failure in their final exams. Mariang Banga is the oldest of the Maria sculptures in UP Los Banos, it was destroyed during World War II and was later restored. Did you know? University of the Philippines Manila’s healing mission was forged in the fires of war. Its mettle was tested and proven when the College of Medicine continued classes in bullet-riddled classrooms; when its students, doctors, nurses, and other health care workers never stopped delivering treatment and care — despite dwindling supplies — at the shattered wards and halls of the UP Philippine General Hospital. UP PGH rose from the ruins and the ashes, rebuilding and reclaiming its position as the nation’s leading center for medical training and public health care. Don’t miss the upcoming Buwan ng Unibersided happening this June 2026. Stay tuned for more updates and activities.

“Any glimpse into the life of an animal quickens our own and makes it so much larger and better in every way.” — John Muir, The Story of My Boyhood and Youth (1913) Heartwarming photos of the goodest boys and girls around the UP Diliman campus. Small glimpses into lives made safer through human care. In these moments, they become our sources of comfort, connection, and emotional strength — reflections of the love they have received. As UP continues to nurture a community that protects and cares for campus animals, these are not just images — they are reminders of how kindness makes our own lives richer.
