Last Friday, The University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences held its commencement ceremony celebrating 209 students earning graduate and medical degrees.
Tomorrow, Matthew Folkman will walk across the commencement stage to receive his doctor of medicine degree. Matthew found many ways to get involved at UToledo and give back to the community during his studies. He volunteered at the CommunityCare Clinic and served on its board of directors as the director of medical procedures. He completed multiple research projects but found his study on preference signaling for orthopaedic residency programs for The Match to be most impactful. On Match Day 2026, he matched into orthopaedic surgery at The University of Toledo and will begin his residency on Wednesday, July 1.
When honors student Gabriella DeVage received her degree in legal and paralegal studies last Saturday, she didn’t have to worry about the job market. Gabriella secured a full-time job as a legal assistant with Ward & Associates LLC, a Toledo practice specializing in personal injury and consumer advocacy work related to “lemon law,” debt defense and construction disputes. While at UToledo, her campus experience was shaped by her participation in the Honors Learning Community. “The Honors Learning Community has played a pivotal part of my time on campus and has truly broadened my scope of all that Toledo has to offer,” she said.
